STILLWATER – Oklahoma State basketball coach Mike Boynton announced the signing of 2021 American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and former five-star big man Moussa Cisse (pronounced: MOO-suh SEE-say).

Listed at 6-10 and a springy 225 pounds, the Conakry, Guinea native started every game for Memphis as a freshman in 2020-21 and helped lead the Tigers to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) title.

Cisse averaged 6.3 rebounds and 1.64 blocks per game, which ranked seventh and second in the AAC, respectively. Instinctive on the offensive glass, Cisse ranked fifth among all players in the AAC with 2.3 offensive rebounds per game.

A three-time AAC Freshman of the Week, Cisse rejected a total of 46 shots (in just 28 games), which ranked 37th in the country and tops in his conference. He led the Tigers with four double-doubles and had six double-digit rebounding games, including a 14-rebound performance against Auburn that included 10 offensive boards.

No slouch on the offensive end, Cisse shot 55.2 percent from the floor and averaged 6.6 points per game. He opened his collegiate career with 10 points against Saint Mary's, and counts a career-best 15-point performance at East Carolina among his seven double-digit scoring games. Cisse shot 66.7 percent from the floor and blocked 2.0 shots per game during Memphis' run to the NIT championship

A prep star at Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, Cisse was ranked the No. 2 center and the No. 10 overall player in the nation by 247Sports with a grade of 0.9968. He led Lausanne to the Division II-A state title with an average of 18.7 points, 14.0 rebounds and 8.0 blocks per game. He posted 17 triple-doubles that season, and in November of 2019 he recorded an outing with 31 points, 22 rebounds and 21 blocks.

Cisse was named Tennessee's Mr. Basketball (Division II-A) in his lone season in the state after transferring from Middle Village, New York, where he led Christ the King Regional High School to the NYSFSSA state title game in 2019. Before Christ the King, Cisse attended St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, New Jersey, where he was teammates with Miami Heat forward Precious Achiuwa, the 2020 AAC Player of the Year.

Cisse, who moved to the United States in 2015, earned an invite to the prestigious Nike Hoop Summit and the NBA's Basketball Without Borders Global Camp. While playing on the Nike EYBL circuit during the summer of 2019, Cisse averaged 11.8 points, 11.3 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game – tops at the event.

In June of 2021, Cisse participated in the G League Elite Camp, where he measured 6-11.25 with shoes on and had a 7-foot, 4.5-inch wingspan.

Boynton has now signed three five-star recruits and eight four-star recruits since November of 2018. Cisse is the fourth addition to the OSU roster this offseason, joining fellow transfers Bryce Thompson, Syracuse transfer Woody Newton and Texas Tech transfer Tyreek Smith.
