Honestly, How Did This Happen? More Important, What is Next?

STILLWATER – I started thinking last night. I know that can be a dangerous thing, but my thoughts crept back to Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. I truly like the Commissioner. He has been a friend and treated me well. In his position he can tell you everything, but I believe he has been mostly upfront and honest. I believe that Bowlsby believes in competition, that he is competitive. The man was a college wrestler and those guys have to be competitive.

RA,
I'm hearing that the most recent discussions about a new TV deal for the B12 resulted in the B12 being told it could expect a less valuable package next go round. If that in fact is true, I can only assume that is why OU and UT are leaving - they see no way for the B12 to keep pace with the SEC and B1G going forward. Do you concur?

Hate to admit it but OU and Texas have shown their colors. Everyone has been so afraid to question either for fear of losing them to another opportunity. Guess what? You let bullies bully and you lose. I know this will hurt initially but believe OSU will land on its feet and even excel out of the shadow of ou. Texas has been a snake from the get go.

You let the foxes guard the hen house and you end up with a bunch of scared chickens. The analogy fits in this case. Good riddance.

I remember when Chad Weibergs Uncle Kevin, was the first Commissioner of the Big XII and was forced out because he wanted along with most schools at the time to form a Big XII network, but Texas said NO. Of course everyone eventually realized Texas was angling for their own exclusive network through ESPN. Now they say the Longhorn Network will end up being folded into the SEC network because most of the technology has switched to streaming broadcasts and so forth which has hurt the Cable market. Texas and Zero U created the Big XII in 1994 and destroyed it in 2021.

However you slice this, we are about to take a sizeable pay cut. Bob Bowlsby has been an okay administrator for the Big XII, but he has not been much of a leader in trying to help influence and determine the future direction of college football or our conference. We have missed out on several expansion opportunities during his tenure. In the leadership vacuum we have in college football, it is every man for himself and OU and Texas are looking out for themselves. Our athletic program has suffered a major setback.

Nebraska fought the conference network. None of the 4 schools that voted against it will be left.

If this is so, then why did Nebraska go to the Big 10 which had just started a network that was created by Kevin Weibergnfor Jim Delaney and the conference office?

Two reasons one NU had lost their ability to compete because of the rules changes UT forced through that stopped their use of scholarships for walk ons and their unlimited number of non-qualifiers.

Knowing the program was in for a major decline, and feeling like UT was going to hurt them more they jumped at a good opportunity.

They were firmly opposed to the conference network along with UT & OU.

Osborne said why should we share with the Iowa States of the world.
