Ollie Gordon Named Preseason Offensive Player of the Year by Dallas Morning News
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State commit Ollie Gordon has been named by The Dallas Morning News as their Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. One of the best newspapers in the country at covering the preps, especially high school football in North Texas and beyond, the honor is significant even though it is preseason.
Gordon, a four-star recruit who committed to Oklahoma State in February, ran for 2,035 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2020 while averaging 10.2 yards per carry for Class 6A Division I Region I finalist in Euless Trinity.
A running back for years, but is now moving to quarterback because that will put the ball in Gordon’s hands every play. You can expect him to keep the carries he had as a running back and use the Trojans offense for short passing and lots of sleight of hand with the football.
The Dallas Morning News, ironically, cited one of the most dominating performances in Dallas area offensive football with Cedar Hill quarterback William Cole in 2006 rushing for 2,966-yards and 41 touchdowns in leading that team to a perfect 16-0 season and a state championship. Cole went to Oklahoma State but didn’t meet with the same success while in Stillwater.
Gordon had a one-game performance in the playoffs against five-time state champion Allen where he ran for 455 yards and six touchdowns in a 49-45 win.
