STILLWATER – For the fifth consecutive year, Oklahoma State opened its season with a win as the 16th-ranked Cowgirls defeated UTSA, 2-0, in the BancFirst Cowgirl Soccer Invitational Thursday night at Neal Patterson Stadium.

Ally Jackson and Gabriella Coleman tallied goals for OSU, and Evie Vitali recorded a shutout with four saves in her first collegiate game to propel the home team to victory.

It was Jackson who gave OSU the lead in the 29thminute. After a hard-earned corner kick won by Megan Haines, Kim Rodriguez stepped up for the set piece and delivered the ball into the box, where Jackson headed it past UTSA goalie Jil Schneider for a 1-0 advantage.

The goal was the second of Jackson's career, the other coming in 2019 at TCU, while Rodriguez notched the 22nd assist of her career to move into sixth place on OSU's all-time list.

The Cowgirls' defense came up strong to keep UTSA off the scoreboard in the second half, including a key sequence in the 70th minute when Vitali raced out of goal and slid to save a shot by Isa Hernandez before Kionna Simon saved Hernandez' follow-up shot off the line.

Coleman's goal in the 77th minute sealed the win, with that score also coming off a corner kick as Coleman corralled the ball after a scramble and sent it into the back of the net.

OSU played without a pair of starters in Olyvia Dowell and Charmé Morgan against the Roadrunners, and four freshmen saw their first collegiate action in the match.

The Cowgirls face Pitt for the tournament title Sunday at 11 a.m. The Panthers were 3-0 winners over Tulsa in Thursday's tourney opener.
