STILLWATER – Oklahoma State tied its highest-scoring output of the season and posted its first Big 12 Conference win of the year Sunday with a 3-1 victory over Kansas at Neal Patterson Stadium.

Olyvia Dowell recorded a brace for the Cowgirls, and Charmé Morgan added a goal on a penalty kick as OSU improved to 6-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in league play.

Kansas (5-1-6, 0-2-0) took the game’s initial lead just over 8 ½ minutes into the match when Brie Severns delivered a shot to the near post from 12-yards out to put the visitors up 1-0.

Just four minutes later, OSU would get the equalizer on a great individual effort by Dowell as she won the ball near midfield, then made a great move to get free of her defender in the box before blasting a shot off the hand of diving KU keeper Emilie Gavillet and into the net.

The game would not remain tied long. In the 21st minute, Dowell took a cross into the box from Kim Rodriguez and sent it in to put the Cowgirls up 2-1.

Both Gabriella Coleman and Rodriguez tallied an assist on the play, with Rodriguez moving into fifth on OSU’s all-time assist list as it marked the 23rd of her storied career.

The Cowgirls would put the game away in the 76th minute on Morgan’s first goal of the season, which came after OSU was awarded a penalty following Samiah Phiri being tripped by a KU defender in the box. Morgan stepped up and buried the attempt to extend the lead to 3-1.

KU finished with a 14-11 edge in shots in the match and also had a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks, but the Jayhawks managed just two shots on goal in the contest.

OSU returns to action Thursday for its first conference road test of the season at Iowa State. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Ames.
