Recruits React to Cowboys Big Comeback Win in Austin, Improving to 6-0

It’s official: Oklahoma State is one of the hottest teams in the nation. 

Oklahoma State went into Austin, TX, and while the offense worked to get the ball moving, the defense was absolutely lights out, especially in the second half. Jaylen Warren and the offense got things moving in the fourth quarter and were able to go win the ball game 32-24, improving to 6-0, 3-0 in Big 12 play. They are now ranked No. 8 in the AP Poll.

Hey Marshall, was Webber a. Juco All American last year? It looks like he will probably that list this year with his team on a roll.

We all hear about our "Cowboy Culture" in coach speak and in OSU supporter articles, but what exactly is "Cowboy Culture" -- a new yogurt or something?

A few listed specifics other than it's just a family of hard working student athletes that love their mothers and unselfishly work hard for the team.
I know there are rules, but do we really want to follow them now?

I hope the UT staff took time to explain to all the recruits how they didn't really lose the game, and how the refs were mean to them.

Pokes Report spoke to Webber (JUCO OL) after his commitment who had this to say.

"The thing I liked about Oklahoma State is that it is all about family," Webber said. "They made me feel that I was family and made my family welcome. Coach (Charlie) Dickey, Coach (Mike) Gundy, and Coach (Zach) Crabtree can all help me become the player that I want to be and get me to the level of football that I want to play."

In Gundy's own words..."no fear, no frustration, no fatigue."

One of the most frequent criticism that I read about Gundy from his detractors is that he never shows emotion on the sideline. That's not true, of course...I've seen him get extremely animated when he believes referees have totally blown a call. But those times are few. Most of the time he sets the example for what he expects from his team. No matter what the score, never let them see fear in your eyes. No matter what calls go against you, never let them see any frustration. No matter how many plays you are on the field, never let them see any fatigue.

Some people have expressed their opinions on or thoughts on Cowboy Culture but here is a couple of mine:

1. Appreciate the grind.. meaning the process means just as much as the end result and you don't get the correct end result without correctly going the grind of workouts, trainings, film, etc. Cowboy Culture means having the mentality of appreciating the grind.

2. Chemistry is more than just teamwork.. Yes, teamwork is important on the field but what is more important is having players that take pride in playing for the guy next to them. Older guys helping out the younger guys as equals, offense and defense not being separate teams but just two different units within the same team, etc. Not many college teams have 100+ guys that are close and play for one purpose, to win. Some programs have guys that play for themselves or their brand.

3. The coaching staff is genuine.. I can name a whole lot of schools that have coaches that are there for a paycheck or just trying to grow their name for the next job. Gundy has done a very good job of creating stability among assistants compared to the rate of turnover around the country. This is also why Oklahoma State has very rarely ever been spurned by the transfer portal. Guys learn that its OK to wait your turn and grind out the process, which starts at the top with the coaching staff. If you know your coach is gonna ride or die for you, it becomes a whole lot easier to reciprocate that as a player.
