Complete Domination: Oklahoma State Rolls to 55-3 Homecoming Win Over Kansas
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State was dominant from start to finish as they rolled to an impressive 55-3 over Kansas in the Homecoming game.
With the win, the Cowboys moved to 7-1 on the season, 4-1 in Big 12 play.
The Cowboys played one of their best halves of football of the season in the first half against the Jayhawks. The Pokes combined for 331-yards of total offense and did so with an impressive balance. Spencer Sanders threw for 157 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 53 yards on seven carries and a touchdown. On the ground, the Pokes combined for 170 yards on the ground.
On the other side of the ball, the defense not only kept the Jayhawks off the scoreboard, but they nearly kept they out of the stat sheet. KU posted just 49 total first half yards, just 39 yards on the ground.
The Cowboy defense was stout the entire game as they held the Jayhawks to just 143 yards of total offense, 44 yards through the air and 99 on the ground.
On the game, the Cowboys combined for 535 yards of total offense, 243 through the air and 292 on the ground, with eight rushers combing for the yards on the ground.
Shane Illingworth finished going 6-of-10 for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Ethan Bullock also got into the game, going 2-for-3 for 16 yards.
Dominic Richardson led the team in rushing yards with 79 yards on 11 carries. He also got into the end zone for the first time this season.
Brennan Presley had another big game as he combined for two touchdowns, a six-yard catch for a score and a 14-yarder on the ground on a reverse. Receiver Tay Martin also found pay dirt in the first half as he hauled in a 36-yarder from Spencer Sanders.
Jason Taylor II and Kolby Harvell-Peel also combined for two interceptions in the first half, leading to 10 points.
In a somewhat surprising move, Gundy sent back up quarterback Shane Illingworth into the game right before the end of the first half. Illingworth came in as the starter of the second half and played very well. He connected with Bryson Green from 12-yards out for the Pokes’ first third quarter touchdown of the season, putting the Pokes up 45-0.
Illingworth would connect with freshman receiver John Paul Richardson from two yards out for Richardson’s first touchdown of his career.
Alex Hale came out to attempt a field goal early in the fourth quarter, hitting a 26-yarder to bring the Pokes’ lead up to 55-3.
The Cowboys next out will be on the road against West Virginia next weekend. Kickoff time will be decided after this weekend’s slate of game.
