Cowboys Back in the Win Column With 72-59 Win Over Prairie View A&M
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State got back in the win column on Sunday as the Cowboys fought their way to a 72-59 win over Prairie View A&M.
The win marked the 1,700th victory in program history for the Pokes, which puts them inside the top 40 all-time in wins in Division 1 college basketball.
The Cowboys move to 2-1 on the season and will face UMass-Lowell on Tuesday, Nov. 16, as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase.
After bit of slow start, the Cowboys rolled to a 38-15 lead going into halftime, which included 23 points off the bench and forcing 20 turnovers. The Pokes held the Panthers to just four points in the paint and scored 20 points of the 20 turnovers.
The second half, however, was a different story. The Panthers started with a blistering 15-0 run out of the break to cut the Pokes’ lead to just eight, 38-30, before Boynton’s boys started to pull away with a few 7-0 runs of their own.
Keylan Boone led the way in scoring for the Pokes with 12 points. It was also the first game back this season for both Bryce Williams and Kalib Boone, who combined for seven points, eight assists, three blocks and three steals.
Avery Anderson III continues to struggle as posted six points, all coming from the free throw line. He finished 0-of-5 from the floor with four turnovers.
