Jim Knowles Tabbed 2021 Broyles Award Nominee
STILLWATER – There’s been plenty of speculation throughout the year about Oklahoma State Jim Knowles being the best assistant coach in college football this season. Well, he’s now officially one step closer to proving it.
On Monday afternoon, Knowles was tabbed a nominee for the 2021 Broyles Award, which is given annually to the top assistant coach in college football.
Knowles is one of just three Big 12 coaches named to the list.
There’s no denying the fact that Oklahoma State has one of the best defenses in all of college football. They’re ranked third in the country behind in Wisconsin and Georgia in total defense as they’re holding opponents to just 16.4 points a game, just 276.6 yards per game, 4.48 yards per play.
They’re top five in rush defense with just 90.9 yards per game, top five in third down defense allowing just 24.8% conversion rate, tied for first in sacks with 37 on the season, an average of 3.7 a game, top five in tackles for loss and top five in first downs allowed.
Going back through the past three games, Kansas, West Virginia and TCU, the Cowboy defense allowed just four third down conversions and combined for 15 total sacks.
The Cowboys are back in action this weekend on the road against Texas Tech. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT on FOX.
