STILLWATER – It took an extra year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Oklahoma State great Leslie O’Neal was officially inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2020.

O’Neal was a two-time All-America honoree during his time at Oklahoma State, and one of the most dominant defenders in OSU history. He finished his career sitting a school record that still stands to this day, 16.0 sacks for 118 yards lost in the 1984 season, as well as he 34 career sacks. His 47 career tackles for loss ranks second. He also finished with 393 total tackles.

He was named the Big Eight Defensive Player of the Year following the 1984 season and earned All-Big Eight honors in each of his last three season in Stillwater.

O’Neal was a first-round draft choice of the San Diego Chargers in 1986, going No. 8 overall. He spent 14 seasons in the league and was a six-time Pro Bowl selection, three-time Second Team All-Pro, was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1986 and racked up an impressive 132.5 career sacks.
