Oklahoma State Signs Highest Ranked Recruiting Class In School History

Recruiting rankings are a hot topic among those who pay attention to recruiting, whether it be player or team rankings, there are many debates to be had. There is also no more important day for these debates and discussions than today, national signing day.

In the past, Oklahoma State has been considered not necessarily a weak recruiting program, but a lackluster one. Personally, I do not agree with this as many of you know, but it is what it is. The Cowboys prove they can recruit by continuously filling up the win column, being in the top 10 in wins in the past decade or so.

In most years, the Cowboys hover between 35-40 in the recruiting rankings nationally and anywhere from 4-6 in the Big 12 conference.

The past two years have been a bit different though as the Cowboys signed their best class in program history in the 2021 class. They were ranked 30th nationally but had an all-time high in the average player ranking (86.60), coming from the composite scores made from ESPN, 247Sports, and Rivals.

Now, in the 2022 class, they have once again re-set their record, averaging a score of 87.57 and sitting in the top 25 according to every major recruiting service:

On3: No. 21

247Sports: No. 23

Rivals: No. 25

Pokes Report rankings also has the Cowboys signing seven (7) four-star recruits in this 2022 class, six of which are on the offensive side of the ball. Pokes Report also had Oklahoma State signing seven four-star recruits in the 2021 class as well.

No matter which way you look at it, the Cowboys are recruiting the best they ever have. Part of this can attributed to wins on the field but even most of this 2022 class was committed well prior to the Cowboys stellar season. The coaching staff is rock solid, and the culture is easy to see. The Cowboys are primed to run the Big 12 for years.

without trying to dig into it.... isn't this rating mostly due to the very low number of recruits in the class, and not having numbers dragging the averages down?

Due to COVID and the Portal, there are only 17 kids in the class, we usually have 21-27

I"m thrilled that we have another class of good kids

I think that could have something to do with it. Recruiting rankings are weird in that it's based on the caliber of high-ranked kids. If you added kids who aren't ranked as high, the ranking would most likely stay the same, which doesn't make a lot of sense. The coaching staff went after a bunch of highly-ranked kids this year and it's paid off quite well. I'm looking forward to see what transfers they bring in in the coming months and how that affects the class as well.

check this out... Rivals ranked our 2003 class #15

I don't think 24x7 was around then - they were called something else back then (Scout?)

We use to be in the top 25 a few times, if my memory hasn't totally failed.

we were #22 in 2006, with six 4-stars (rivals)

Miles use to focus on elevated rankings by signing kids that didn't even make it to campus (Lance Carson), or guys like XLK that never fully recovered from his HS injuries.

Any one ever figure out why Gundy keeps saying 23? Class is at 17 and he has said 23 kids twice

It's a bummer looking at 247's list of our top ranked recruits and how many either didn't make it to campus or did not become multi-year contributors if they did.

He is factoring in the transfers that will be there (5 or 6 of them)
