Jayden Jernigan to Enter the Transfer Portal
STILLWATER – It appears Oklahoma State is losing its second player to the transfer portal this month. According to a report from 247Sports, Cowboy defensive tackle Jayden Jernigan plans to enter his name into the transfer portal.
Pokes Report has confirmed Jernigan is entering the portal to weigh his options, but there’s a path for him to return to OSU should he decide to pull his name out of the portal.
The redshirt sophomore out of Allen (TX) High School has three years of eligibility remaining after this season.
Jernigan is a 6-1, 285-pound interior defensive tackle who recorded 19 total tackles in 13 games on the season this past year, 13 of which were solo stops. He also recorded two tackles for loss and two sack and five quarterback hurries.
He played in all 13 games as a true freshman in 2019, recording 13 total tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks. However, he missed the entirety of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 related issues.
While it doesn’t appear Jernigan is in the portal just yet, he joins offensive lineman Hunter Anthony, who entered the portal on Dec. 6. Since then, Anthony has committed to Nebraska to play for Scott Frost.
Not including what else could happen with the portal or the NFL Draft, the Cowboys return a number of defensive linemen next season. Those coming back are Brock Martin, Collin Oliver, Xavier Ross, Aden Kelley, Tyler Lacy, Nathan Latu, Collin Clay, Trace Ford, Kody Walterscheid. Brendon Evers is still undecided on whether he’s coming back or not.
The coaching staff is bringing in three defensive linemen in the 2022 class, Landon Dean, Jaleel Johnson and four-star edge rusher Desean Brown out of Choctaw, who’s easily the best defensive player from the state of Oklahoma in the class.
