Jayden Jernigan to Enter the Transfer Portal

STILLWATER – It appears Oklahoma State is losing its second player to the transfer portal this month. According to a report from 247Sports, Cowboy defensive tackle Jayden Jernigan plans to enter his name into the transfer portal.

Pokes Report has confirmed Jernigan is entering the portal to weigh his options, but there’s a path for him to return to OSU should he decide to pull his name out of the portal.

The redshirt sophomore out of Allen (TX) High School has three years of eligibility remaining after this season.

Jernigan is a 6-1, 285-pound interior defensive tackle who recorded 19 total tackles in 13 games on the season this past year, 13 of which were solo stops. He also recorded two tackles for loss and two sack and five quarterback hurries.

He played in all 13 games as a true freshman in 2019, recording 13 total tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks. However, he missed the entirety of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 related issues.

While it doesn’t appear Jernigan is in the portal just yet, he joins offensive lineman Hunter Anthony, who entered the portal on Dec. 6. Since then, Anthony has committed to Nebraska to play for Scott Frost.

Not including what else could happen with the portal or the NFL Draft, the Cowboys return a number of defensive linemen next season. Those coming back are Brock Martin, Collin Oliver, Xavier Ross, Aden Kelley, Tyler Lacy, Nathan Latu, Collin Clay, Trace Ford, Kody Walterscheid. Brendon Evers is still undecided on whether he’s coming back or not.

The coaching staff is bringing in three defensive linemen in the 2022 class, Landon Dean, Jaleel Johnson and four-star edge rusher Desean Brown out of Choctaw, who’s easily the best defensive player from the state of Oklahoma in the class.

Hmmm, I didn't see this coming, he had to sit out last season because of myocardatis concerns relayed to Covid. I hope he has fully recovered from that episode and hope he reconsiders.

He had a hell of a year this past season for an young interior defensive tackle, so I'm fairly certain his health issues last year don't have anything to do with this.

I heard today on the radio that Hunter Anthony is still practicing with team and will play in the bowl game. Can you confirm this?

Yes he is, with everything Anthony has been through the past few years and with working on a graduate degree, Gundy wants to reward him with a trip to a NY6 bowl against a prestigious opponent. It's a nice little cherry on top of his OSU career before he moves on to Nebraska.

More of an issue Jernigan may go IMO. I understand wanting to see something new....but he's a possible major contributor for this next year.

Something doesn't smell right with this! Robert reported that the first release of this news he was going into the portal came from the UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS 24/7 FAN SITE.

Yeah UT seems to be in full SEC mode right now.

The funny thing is it's not moving the needle, and they still haven't figured out how to handle the entitlement issue, and somehow throwing more cash at the issue will probably make it worse not better.

do you mean getting $50,000/yr for being a 3rd string lineman is not going to motivate them to be a starter? Naw.

heck, that's close to the median income for Americans....

If you can't already motivate them to do that all it will do is motivate them to spend time spending that money in ways that keep them away from the things they need to be doing.

Actually it's about 160% of US median income Cal. Somebody local needs to offer Jernigan an NIL deal to stay in Stillwater! We could really use him at DT rotation next year. Bad thing of course is you "buy" his services and 10 others say how about me?! But I really hope he sticks around.....he's really talented IMO.
