New Cowboy Webber Comes to Stillwater as a National Champion

STILLWATER – On Wednesday Tyrone Webber signed early with Oklahoma State and then the Canadian native got on a bus with his New Mexico Military Institute teammates and made the long bus ride to Little Rock, Ark. for the NJCAA National Championship Game. Tonight (Dec. 17) Webber (No. 77) could be seen pushing Iowa Western defender downfield on run plays, sometimes as far as 10-or-15-yards. It looked like scenes from the movie The Blind Side. On pass plays you could see Webber either push his target outside or simply lock them up in a stalemate at the line of scrimmage. His blocking helped NMMI win the NJCAA Football National Championship 31-13 over Iowa Western.

Iowa Western came in ranked No. 1 and unbeaten at 10-0and now they finish 10-1. New Mexico Military finishes at 12-1. NMMI led 24-0 at halftime and then expanded the lead to 31-0 in the third quarter. They finished with 373-yards of total offense and averaged 5.3-yards a play.

The Most Valuable Player in the game was NMMI running back Anthony Grant, who had 194-yards rushing and a touchdown as well as a touchdown reception. Webber had some huge blocks all night helping to spring Grant. Webber was the Southwest Junior College Football Conference MVP for the season which is a rare honor for an offensive tackle. The 6-4, 290-pound Webber is a force on the field and will be at Oklahoma State for the spring semester.

Webber should be shoe-in to repeat as an NJCAA All-American. He was an All-American in the spring season.

wow... that is fantastic. Great size and a National Champion!

It will be interesting in Spring to see how he fits into the line.... the 2 top prospects at LT coming out of last Spring didn't make it past the first few games, and they're still around too.

Our backup center filled in nicely the last few weeks with Danny G out.

Sills will be missed at Guard, but I think we have good talent to fill that spot too.

The OLine is looking really good for next season, and Webber could be one to put it over the top
