STILLWATER – Just one day after the early National Signing Date for Division I college football just guess what appeared in my mailbox? It was the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Rising Recruiting Guide. Hey, one more look at how my friends at Texas Football ranked the Texans in the Oklahoma State football class for 2022 and then also a peek at how they feel about the prospects that Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy, his staff, recruiting coordinator Todd Bradford, and the Cowboys recruiting analysts are pursuing for the class of 2023 identified everywhere by the #saddleup.

All five of the Cowboys 2023 class members coming out of Texas high schools were on the Whataburger Super Team Ballot. Fans can vote for those players at TexasFootball.com/WhatASuperTeam.

Oklahoma State running back signee and Euless Trinity standout and record holder Ollie Gordon was featured in a really cool full-page picture taken by Robbie Rakestraw.

The copy in the issue is the product of the Texas Football staff but kudos to managing editor Greg Tepper and our good friend and Oklahoma native Greg Powers, who is the recruiting analyst for Texas Football Magazine. The late great Dave Campbell, who founded the magazine would have been proud of this latest issue.

On Gordon: “The Oklahoma State commit has an impressive year rushing for 2,083-yards and 28 touchdowns to earn the distinction of being named the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Male Athlete of the Year. Gordon’s athleticism and pass catching ability are rare in a running back.”

The magazine called Oklahoma State quarterback signee Garrett Rangel of Frisco Lone Star “model of consistency” and “smooth is the best way to describe his game.”

They said Austin Kawecki of Frisco Lebanon Trail High School is “the best prospect to come of the young East Frisco high school” and is “extremely agile and has the type of frame that college strength coaches dream of.”

On big 6-8, 330-pound Calvin Harvey of Ridge Point High School they wrote “literally the most massive prospect on our Top 300 list.” They also wrote, “uses his size to dominate at the point of attack.”

Finally, on cornerback prospect Dylahn McKinney of Colleyville Heritage the magazine said, “has a very high upside playing on an island at the next level, where he can use his size to take on bigger wide receivers in one-on-one situations.”

Now as for the class of 2023 and prospects that Oklahoma State is either recruiting or that they have offered. All of these players made the Texas Football 2023 Top 100 list.
