Today at the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl with the Cowboys
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Today is quite different than what was originally scheduled and while the media and some of the “freaky” or “off-the-wall” media is disappointed the coaches and players will welcome their morning on their own time.
The big media event was the full squad (travel squad and coaching staff) media day at the media hotel (Marriott Camelback Resort). With the new COVID-19 protocols put in by the College Football Playoff, which manages the New Year’s Six game like the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl that event was cancelled. For main stream media like Pokes Report we miss getting some interviews with players we normally would not have access to. It’s okay, the goofy media treats this like a Super Bowl media day and has players doing goofy things like push-up contests or who can make the strangest face.
The players and coaches don’t miss that hour and a half of their life they would never get back. That event cancelled, it was all about team activities with no media.
Practice at 12:20 p.m. local time at Saguaro High School is a typical Thursday practice with run thrus of the game plan on both sides of the football.
After practice the Cowboys had a community outreach activity through the Fiesta Bowl as backpacks were passed out to kids and the Cowboys players packed those backpacks out with school supplies and souvenirs from Oklahoma State football and the Fiesta Bowl.
Wednesday night was the first night of curfew. Yes, there is a curfew as the game gets closer. The players got out and many of them had a night out on Tuesday and with a special teams practice only on Wednesday, it made sense to get the partying out of the system. Last night’s curfew was midnight and the curfew the next two nights will be 10 p.m.
A quiet day. The Cowboys will go by the stadium on Friday and then have a last walk thru back at Saguaro High School.
