Oklahoma State Guard Josh Sills Declares for the NFL Draft

STILLWATER – A key piece to the success of Oklahoma State’s success in 2021 has announced he’s headed to the NFL.

Offensive guard Josh Sills took to Twitter late Wednesday evening to declare for the NFL Draft.

Pokes Report wrote about Sills’ intention to head towards the NFL Draft back on Jan. 2.

Sills transferred to Oklahoma State from West Virginia prior to the start of the 2020 season. The 6-6 redshirt senior out of Sarahsville, OH, has been a key piece on the offensive line the past two seasons, as he’s played through various injuries en route to the Cowboys averaging 185.5 rushing yards per game, and 4.2 yards per carry this past season.

The Pokes averaged 187.3 rushing yards per game, and 4.1 yards per carry in 2020.

Fellow transfer Jaylen Warren was the main contributing running back as he posted an impressive 1,216 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2021.

Sills is the second player to officially declare for the NFL Draft in the past week as safety Tre Sterling took to Twitter immediately following the Pokes’ 37-35 win over No. 5 Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.

Better hit that transfer portal hard cuz we are losing a ton on the line all of a sudden. Crazy how osu has such success and everyone wants to leave as opposed to running it back.

Appears the portal pathways are going to be more and more the norm in the future. The key IMO will be that we gain more overall than we lose, and seemingly we're positioned well for that with stable coaching, great facilities and finally a quality, dedicated recruiting set up/staff to help our position coaches.
I think the blue bloods will pick at us a tad.....but normally not to a great degree as they generally have their ranks filled most years with quality, recruited players. Certainly that's the case with UGA, Alabama, UT, etc. So the greater opportunity IMO is to harvest the "surprise should have been a 3+ or 4 star perhaps" kind of players who rise up at Tulsa, Central Michigan, Washington State, Missouri State, North Texas, AAC schools, etc., who have now shown bigger stage capability. I think this will actually be more and more the norm....and the teams like Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Baylor, etc will be the greatest benefactors of this IF they stay on top of the systems, facilities, trends and ensure they can offer a "step up" opportunity for bowls, culture, player development and NFL attention. It's a new recruiting world.
