But the smart money is on LSU.
Oklahoma State Extends Offer to Missouri Transfer DT Mekhi Wingo
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State continues to send out transfer offers, with one of the latest going to one of the more sought-after young transfers in the portal.
The 6-1, 275-pound defensive tackle for Missouri entered the portal back on Jan. 7 and announced an Oklahoma State offer just a few days later.
Since entering the portal, Wingo has generated a ton of buzz as he’s earned 10 offers in just a few days, including Oklahoma State, LSU, Nebraska, North Carolina, OU, UCF, USC and West Virginia among others.
Wingo played as a true freshman this past season, primarily as an interior lineman. However, he didn’t play like a true freshman interior lineman. He played in 12 out of the Tigers’ 13 games in 2021, including four starts. In those games, he recorded 27 total tackles, 14 of which were solo stops, as well as 2.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, one interception for 40 yards and a touchdown, and two quarterback hurries.
For his efforts, he was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team and will be a solid addition to whichever program he winds up with.
However, there’s some people who have Wingo penciled in at LSU as his former high school coach at De Smet, Robert Steeples, was just hired at LSU. Steeples is currently an assistant special teams coach for the Minnesota Vikings and will join Brian Kelly’s staff in Baton Rouge following the season.
With interior lineman Jayden Jernigan currently on his way to Missouri, the Cowboy coaching staff will be looking to fill that spot and Wingo appears to be atop the list.
