Oklahoma State Football Series: Part Three - Recruiting

STILLWATER – Recruiting has become so much more complex. Remember the simple days when it just came down to evaluating the high school players, hosting a few camps, getting on the road and checking out high schools, making some offers, finding the right guys and then signing 20-25 of those guys with most of them on the early signing date in December.

Not so simple anymore.

It would seem to me, if it hasn't been started already, a full time NIL Funding Possee type operation should be considered to reach out to all businesses, alums and fans to try to position OSU for NIL as at least a solid option especially for football and basketball athletes. Even if only 10,000 fans would average $150 per year on this as donations, you're talking about $1.5 million. If then your wealthy donars and businesses step up with at least 2 or 3 times that amount, you're quickly getting into the monies necessary to provide $40k to $50k plus to football, basketball, baseball and wrestling team members (and including the women's softball and basketball which will likely be overlooked by many schools in the near future at least). I realize the QB's, DT's OL and some others (men's basketball) may have to be compensated more and eat up a bigger piece of the pie, but again, a full alum outreach would seem worthwhile. Every dollar (or million dollars) would help get this to a real money level and give OSU fans the opportunity to say we're in this game to compete or not.

FWIW - Robert did say this in his article...

" There are schools with tens of millions of dollars earmarked for NIL opportunities. There is no confirmation, but I've had people inside the department tell me that has happened at OSU. "

I saw that Cal, but as an alum with season tickets for both football and basketball with extra donations for many years, I certainly haven't seen any general solicitation for this. I know I'm still relatively small potatoes with my level of contributions, but as I stated.....put 10,000 of us regular type donars together and there's still some money involved. You know, a million here, a million there.....turns into some real money.
