Report: Jarrick Bernard-Converse Enters the Transfer Portal

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State defense took quite the blow early Thursday morning as Max Olson of The Athletic is reporting corner Jarrick Bernard-Converse has entered his name into the transfer portal.

The senior out of Evangel Christian out of Shreveport, LA will be a grad transfer. He also becomes the 11th player to enter the portal for the Cowboys, the fourth on the defensive side as he joins safeties Tanner McCalister and Gabe Lemons and defensive tackle Jayden Jernigan.

Bernard-Converse was very good his final year in Stillwater. He entered the season starting 33-straight games and was tabbed First Team All-Big 12 and recorded 48 total tackles, 38 of which were solo stops, 1.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks, one quarterback hurry and 10 pass break ups.

His 10 PBUs led the team, with fellow corner Christian Holmes next on the list with seven.

He’s recorded 183 total tackles during his time in Stillwater, with 59 tackles his freshman season in 2018, which led to him earning the Russell Okung Award, awarded to OSU’s most outstanding newcomer.

Behind Jarrick is collection of talented, but young corners. Both Korie Black and Jabbar Muhammad were sophomores this past season on next on the list and played key roles in games down the stretch for the Pokes. Black recorded 19 total tackles, 12 of which were solo stops, including three against Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. As for Muhammad, the cousin of former OSU corner AJ Green, he finished the year with 23 total tackles, 18 of which were solo stops, as well as three pass break ups, one of which came against Notre Dame.

Damn! Went from returning damn near everyone and then Knowles leaves and we are replacing everyone lol lord let the depth behind those guys rise and shine next season

something is clearly rotten in Stillwater.... and nobody is talking about it.

coaches leaving for a few dollars more... players leaving in droves

somebody tell me it's just my imagination running away with me

I don't blame Jim Knowles leaving for $2 million and a legit chance at winning a national championship with one of the premier blue blood programs in the history of college football. As for the other coaches who left, they're all GAs who will have most likely moved on at some point because there are no openings for full time coaches on staff.

I will say this though, Jarrick entering the portal comes as a surprise, just like McCalister and Jernigan because they were all starters and contributors. Certainly big losses that will be tough to overcome because of the depth and production they provided.

I don't agree with your assessment. Outside of McCallister and now Bernard-Converse the majority of the other transfers are depth players. What people need to start to understand is the portal is so much easier now to enter and this is going to happen. In my opinion this is a testament to the recruiting and player development that's been going on in Stillwater.

Ever heard of NIL, we better get in the game or you will lose these guys by the time they reach their junior or senior years if they are potential NFL material because the word is out among all these guys who is offering what and how much. We now have free agency in college foitball, don't get mad at me I am just telling the truth!!!

I think I was saying the opposite.... that we're losing our developmental players because we are the one's bringing in portal players, and I don't think that we're offering top dollar.

With the kids like Converse, perhaps you're correct about going to the highest bidder, but I suppose we'll have to see where he ends up before we jump to any conclusions.... our other contributors that left (Jernigan, etc.) did not end up with the "highest bidders"

There might be another real reason JBC is leaving. He is graduating and according to some he was not going to get accepted into the Oklahoma State Veterinary school. Plus Ohio State has a higher rated Vet school in comparison. If JBC was not able to continue going to school here next year he could not have played for us anyway.

That is some helpful info. Doesn't help the football team but it makes sense that he would at least explore getting into vet school elsewhere. Has anyone talked to the Vet school, maybe they could reconsider and take one for the team?

Our vet program ranks near the bottom of the barrel in the country. It's not what it used to be.

Veterinary schools are harder to get into than medical schools or dental schools, mostly because there are so few.

my friend from HS wanted to be a veterinarian, he was a tri-delt at OSU, instead he's been director of heart medicine in Tulsa for 3 decades.

veterinary school admittance is very hard... very hard

This is perplexing as all get out. This guy has been a huge impact for our defense. Got burned alot, and got picked on with penalties, but also made some big plays.

I think the LLL's were from revenge of the nerds, but the tri-delts are a sorority. DTD now that might be a fraternity.
