Oklahoma State Looking to Complete Sweep of Texas on Saturday
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State has won four games in the month of January and they’re looking to make it five by completing the sweep of the No. 23 Texas Longhorns on Saturday down in Austin. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
The Cowboys beat then-ranked No. 14 Longhorns 64-51 in Stillwater back on Jan. 8. Keylan Boone led the way with a career-high 17 points on a career-high 6-of-8 shooting from the floor. He also made a career-high five 3-pointers in a career-high 27 minutes. Needless to say, it was a very good day for Key.
The Pokes outrebounded the Horns 36-33, while forcing 14 turnovers and holding onto the lead for more than 39 minutes.
The Longhorns were led by Timmy Allen and Andrew Jones, both scoring 10 points apiece.
Since the first game in Stillwater, the Longhorns have struggled. They beat OU rather handily on the 11th, 66-52, but lost to Iowa State, 79-70, in Ames and Kansas State in Austin, 66-65.
It was Jones and Marcus Carr who led the way against Iowa State, scoring 18 points and 15 points respectively. Courtney Ramey also hit double figures with 10 points.
In the loss to K-State, Carr went off for 25 points and Allen finished with 15 points.
As for the Pokes, they have been on a roll recently, beginning with a 61-54 upset of No. 1 Baylor in Waco last Saturday and, on Wednesday, coming back and beating TCU, 57-56. Bryce Thompson and Rondel Walker have played really well the past two games. Thompson went off for a career-high 19 points against Baylor, and Walker was the hero of the TCU game scoring five points in the final 30 seconds of the game with a huge 3-pointer to cut the game to one-point, then hit two free throws with less than five seconds to give the Pokes the lead and ultimately the game.
The game on Saturday is an important for the Pokes as they look to continue their momentum into a tough matchup against No. 15 Iowa State in Stillwater next Wednesday, Jan. 26.
