Oklahoma State Snaps Four-Game Losing Steak With 64-55 Win Over Oklahoma
STILLWATER – It was a close game from start to finish, but Oklahoma State took Bedlam part one, as well as snapped a four-game losing streak, with a 64-55 win over Oklahoma.
With the win, the Cowboys move back to .500 on the season, 11-11, and 4-6 in Big 12 play.
The Cowboys had multiple players in double digits as Kalib Boone and Moussa Cisse led the way with 12 points apiece, Rondel Walker with 11 and Keylan Boone with 10.
Kalib Boone had one of his best games of the season, certainly over the past few months as he finished with 12 points, all coming in the second half, five rebounds and a block. His twin, Keylan, also had a great game as he posted 10 points and four rebounds, with two steals and two blocks. Cisse’s 12 points came on 5-of-8 shooting.
As a team, the Cowboys forced 17 turnovers, compared to committing 16 on the other end. They shot 48% from the field, had 26 points off the bench and 34 points in the paint.
It was a rather low scoring affair with plenty of turnover to go around. The Cowboys went on a near-seven-minute scoring drought early in the first half but kept in the game with a strong defensive effort as a powerful dunk from Moussa Cisse ended the drought to get the Pokes back within five, 20-15.
Cisse recorded a steal on the other end, which led to a fastbreak layup by Tyreek Smith to get the Pokes within three, 20-17, followed by a monstrous alley-oop from Isaac Likekele to Cisse to get the game within one, 20-19.
A deep three by Keylan Boone tied the game at 26 with 3:44 left in the first half. He then nailed another deep three with less than a minute to go in the half to give the Pokes their first lead since early in the game, 29-28 going into halftime.
Despite the turnovers, it was an exciting game from start to finish.
The start of the second half was a little rough for both sides as they combined for five turnovers in the first two minutes, but the Cowboys started to find their rhythm. They’d go on an 11-0 run, a 40-32 lead, with 12:11 in the second half, while forcing four OU turnovers and a near-four-minute Sooner scoring drought on the other end.
Bryce Williams scored his first bucket since the TCU game with five minutes left in the game to extend the Pokes’ lead up to nine, 51-42.
The Sooners kept clawing back as Tanner Grove hit three buckets to get the game back within six, but Cisse completed an and-one opportunity to get the Pokes back up to nine, 57-48 with just under two minutes to go.
The Cowboys next game will be Tuesday, Feb. 8 as they hit the road for a showdown with TCU.
