Oklahoma State’s Comeback Comes up Short as TCU Holds on for 77-73 Win
After trailing by as much as 13, Oklahoma State came roaring back to get within two points with one minute remaining. However, the Pokes were unable to close out as TCU pulls away late for a 77-73 win.
With the loss, the Cowboys move to 11-12 on the season and 4-7 in Big 12 play.
It all came down to the final minute. Trailing three with :20, Avery Anderson III was fouled and sent to the free throw line where he made the front end of two shots. TCU’s Eddie Lampkin made the rebound and was fouled, where he made both free throws to put the Frogs up by five with just :19.1 left.
Anderson III hit a quick bucket following the free throws, but TCU responded with a bucket of their own on a full court hail mary pass down the court for a wide-open dunk by Emanuel Miller to put the Frogs back up four, 77-73. The Cowboys had two chances to cut the game to two, a layup by Anderson III and a jumper by Bryce Thompson, but both shots missing.
It was Isaac Likekele leading the way for the Pokes as he finished with 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting with six rebounds and five assists. Anderson III also finished in double figures as he posted 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting. It shouldn’t be surprising that both played well in Fort Worth as they’re both from the DFW area.
The Cowboys shot 49% from the field, 35% from 3-point range, while scoring 18 points on 17 turnovers, but were outrebounded rather heavily as the Frogs hauled in 37 compared to just 24 from the Pokes. The Cowboys did, however, dominate the paint with 44 points compared to just 28 on the other end.
The Cowboys will be back out on Saturday, Feb. 12 as West Virginia comes to Stillwater for the second of two matchups this season. The first game went to the Mountaineers in Morgantown, 70-60. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
