Oklahoma State Upsets No. 12 Texas Tech on Senior Day, 52-51
STILLWATER – In the final game of the season, Oklahoma State sent its seniors out on a high note as the Pokes upset No. 12 Texas Tech, 52-51.
With the win, the Cowboys moved to .500 on the season, 15-15 and 8-10 in Big 12 play.
Trailing two with less than :30 left in the game, senior Bryce Williams found Bryce Thompson in the corner, who hit his first 3-pointer of the game to give the Pokes a one-point lead, 52-51, with :19.4 left on the clock.
The Red Raiders got the ball across mid-court before calling a timeout with :15.1 left.
The Cowboys had two fouls to give, which they took advantage of one of them. The Red Raiders had :2.3 left to make something happen, but Tyreek Smith recorded a block on the final shot of the game to give the Pokes a 52-51 win.
It was a low-scoring, back and forth first half between the Cowboys and Red Raiders and they went into the break tied 27-27. In the final 10 minutes of the half, both teams would go on mini runs, first a 7-0 run by the Cowboys, which was capped by a 3-pointer by Rondel Walker, which was immediately followed by a 5-0 run by the Red Raiders.
Rondel Walker led the way for the Pokes in the first half as he hit three-straight 3-pointers in the final five minutes of the half. He also recorded a block following his first three of the day.
Walker finished the day with 12 points, leading the Pokes in scoring on 4-of-7 shooting from the field, 3-of-6 from 3-point range.
The Red Raiders came out of the break on a 5-0 run, before Tyreek Smith hit a layup to get the Pokes back within three, 32-29. He missed the free throw to cut the deficit to two.
Trailing six with just under six minutes left to go in the game, Moussa Cisse’s fifth block of the game led to a fast break dunk by Bryce Thompson to get the Pokes back within three, 49-46.
The Cowboys turned up the defensive pressure midway through the second half as they held the Red Raiders on a more than nine-minute scoring drought, which started at the 9:48 mark following a 3-pointer from Kevin Obanor.
With just under a minute, Rondel Walker hauled in a rebound off a missed 3-pointer by Bryce Williams, which led to an and-one opportunity, which he made to tie the game up at 49-49.
On the next play, Davion Warren hit a layup to end a near-10 minute scoring drought, putting Tech back on top, 51-49 with .28.3.
The Cowboys finished the game on a 13-2 run over the last nine and a half minutes, while forcing six turnovers on the defensive end.
