STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State and Chris Young have come to terms on a new contract which will keep him as the Director of Tennis and in charge of the Cowgirl tennis program through 2027. The contract was approved last week by the OSU Board of Regents.

“Under Coach Young’s leadership, the Cowgirl tennis program has elevated to one of the top programs in the country. With Chris leading our tennis programs, we have developed players, built world-class facilities, engaged supporters, grown the fanbase and competed at a championship level,” OSU Director of Athletics Chad Weiberg said.

“Thanks to his efforts, Oklahoma State will host the 2024 NCAA Tennis Championships at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center. I know Chris is driven to build on what he has started here and continue to elevate our players and our program. The future of OSU tennis is bright under Chris Young’s leadership.”

This past season, Young’s squad tallied a 20-6 mark and reached the round of 16 at the NCAA tournament. Additionally, the Cowgirls extended their string of All-America selections with the doubles tandem of Lisa Marie Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto garnering the honor. OSU has now had at least one player earn the distinction each season since 2014.

“I am excited about the future of our program and look forward to building on the foundation we have laid here. I am very thankful to our administration for their continued support, belief in myself and our staff and providing us with all the resources we need to achieve at the highest level,” Young said.

“My family and I are grateful for this extension and the opportunity to continue at a place that has been our home for 13 years. It has been an unbelievable place to raise our kids and an easy sell in recruiting to share the impact Oklahoma State and the community of Stillwater can have on the lives of our student-athletes.”

In 13 seasons at the helm of the OSU program, Young has compiled a record of 224-103, won two Big 12 regular season titles and led the Cowgirls to a national runner-up finish in 2016. OSU has been in the NCAA field 10 consecutive seasons and has now reached the round of 16 in five of its past seven trips to the postseason.

Additionally, OSU has finished ranked in the top 10 in four of the past seven seasons and in the top 15 in seven of the past eight years.

Young was instrumental in the fundraising and design of the state-of-the-art Greenwood Tennis Center where the Cowgirls have posted a mark of 102-14 since its opening.
