STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy is one of 20 FBS coaches included on the preseason watch list for the 2022 Dodd Trophy, it was announced Tuesday by the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Peach Bowl.
Gundy, who has won both the Paul "Bear" Bryant College Coach of the Year Award and the Grant Teaff Coach of the Year Award previously in his career, is one of two coaches from the Big 12 included on the list.
Entering his 18th season as OSU's head coach, Gundy holds a career record of 149-69 to rank fourth among all active head coaches in wins at his current school. His teams have set school records with 16 straight bowl appearances and 16 straight winning seasons, and he has coached the Cowboys to five New Year's Six bowl games since the 2009 season.
A two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year, Gundy also ranks fourth all-time in career wins in Big 12 games. He has coached 27 All-America selections and 35 NFL Draft picks, with six going in the first round.
On top of that, Gundy has 36 wins over AP Top 25 teams, 10 wins over top 10 teams, ranks ninth in college football history with 11 bowl wins, has coached more than 400 graduates, and is one of five active head coaches with teams who have finished seasons ranked in the FBS top five in total offense and total defense.
The Dodd Trophy celebrates the head coach of a team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity.
The watch list was created through a selection process by the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Peach Bowl, Inc., taking into consideration each program's graduation rate, commitment to service and charity in the community, projected success for the 2022 season and Academic Progress Rate (APR).
A midseason watch list will be released in the fall and a panel consisting of previous winners, national media, a member of the Dodd family and a College Football Hall of Fame member will identify the final list of potential recipients at the conclusion of the 2022 season. The winner will be announced in Atlanta during the week of the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
