Mike Gundy Ready for Media Days and Oklahoma State Adds SDSU on 2024 Schedule
ARLINGTON, Texas – Oklahoma State football head coach Mike Gundy will be at AT&T Cowboys Stadium bright and early as Gundy, support staff, and players quarterback Spencer Sanders, defensive end Brock Martin, receiver Brennan Presley, and defensive lineman Tyler Lacy will be there to meet the media. Super senior defensive tackle Brendon Evers will be there as part of the Big 12 Champions for Life program.
I spoke with Gundy briefly on Tuesday and he confirmed that he was anxious to meet face-to-face with new Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark, who will open the event at 8:30 a.m. with his first public appearance as the new conference leader. He has spoke with all Big 12 athletic directors, presidents, and head football coaches.
“I spoke with him and I was impressed,” Gundy said. “He has a lot of ideas on how to create revenue for the Big 12 and I’m anxious to hear more from him. He is in tune to the television networks and that will be a huge part of his job.”
Gundy begins his various engagements at 10 a.m. for the Big 12 Media Days.
Gundy also confirmed that Oklahoma State has added a new nonconference opponent for the 2024 season. Oklahoma State will play South Dakota State inside Boone Pickens Stadium on Aug. 31, 2024 as the Jack Rabbits, a program that has fared well against FBS opponents will come into Stillwater for the first time.
“They are a good football program that have played a number of teams in the Big 12 and in other Power Five conferences well,” Gundy said.
South Dakota State opens this upcoming season at Iowa on Sept. 3.
"We are excited to face Oklahoma State in 2024," said SDSU head coach John Stiegelmeier. "Coach (Mike) Gundy has done an unbelievable job of maintaining excellence in the Cowboy football program. We will do everything we can to be ready to play our best."
In the 2024 season the Cowboys follow that game up with a home game against Arkansas and then finish the nonconference schedule at Tulsa.
Pokes Report will have full coverage on Wednesday and Thursday from Big 12 Media Days in Arlington.
