My Under The Radar Prospects From Rounds 3 & 4 Of Texas HS Playoffs

Over the past few weeks I have been able to watch Oklahoma State signees Jaden Nixon, Raymond Gay and Blaine and Bryson Green in the 3rd and 4th rounds of the Texas High School Playoffs, primarily being held at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas.

I have also been able to watch players Oklahoma State has offered in the 2022 and 2023 classes such as Garret Rangel, Avyonne Jones, Jordan Crook, Omari Abor, Jalon Peoples, as well as many others.

While, yes, I am there watch the players who Oklahoma State has on their board, I am also there to scout other players on the field, regardless of team, grade, position, etc.

Here are some of the younger prospects that have caught my eye in recent weeks:

Ollie Gordon

2022 - RB - 6’2 - 210 - Euless Trinity HS

I have written about Gordon several times on Pokes Report as well as my Twitter over the past two weeks. I wathced him for the first time on Dec. 26 when he ran for 455 yards and 6 touchdowns against Allen. Since then, he has picked up five offers to bring his total to 13, seven of which are Power 5. Then on Jan. 2 he ran for 204 yards and 2 more touchdowns as well as a 95 yard kickoff return. His play style reminds me of Leveon Bell, a bigger back, who utilizes patience and sudden burst to make explosive plays. On same plays it almost looks like hes being too patient at the beginning but he ends spinning out of a tackle or breaking out of a big pile to pick up 12 yards. He is certainly one of the biggest risers in the 2022 class and should continue that rise. He leads the Texas 6A ranks with 2,083 yards with 28 touchdows.

Devin Turner

2022 - DB - 6’2 - 185 - Frisco Lone Star HS

Turner is a teammate of Jaden Nixon’s and caught my eye when Nixon was forced to play safety in their final playoff game. He is a lengthy and very physical body in the secondary. His size looks like it would translate to the safety position, more specifically the ROVER position, which Kolby Harvell-Peel is known for. In most of his film, he starts at the top of the play but quickly diagnoses plays and explodes to a spot. His football IQ speaks for itself. He has polished ball skills and is able to read where a ball is going before it goes there. He is a great open field tackler and shows a knack for physicality at the point of attack.

Jace Wilson

2022 - WR - 6’5 - 185 - Denton Guyer HS

Denton Guyer is always a safe bet for solid talent year in and year out. One of their best prospects for this season and the future is the 6’5 wideout Jace Wilson. This is a guy who has major athleticism, especially in the vertical jump department. His size is overpowering for defenders who are able to stick with him. While his speed is not elite, he shows a knack for creating seperation off the line and at breaks in his route. Another impressive skill is his body and feet control around the sideline and in the endzone. He is a dual sport athlete, excelling in basketball. His brother, Jalen Wilson, who was a top basketball recruit in 2019 is averaging 15.8 points and 7.8 rebounds at Kansas. Jace holds offers from Kansas and UNLV.

Alquan Livinston

2022 - DB - 6’2 - 170 - Abilene HS

Livinston is not a name who has really taken off but I liked what I saw in the playoff game. He has good size and showed good anticipation and IQ when in coverage. His frame is already a great size at 6’2 and he can easily put on good weight. He is a good open field tackler and has some pop to him when he wraps up. I have a feeling Livinston will be a name to watch on defense in the 2021 season.

Lontrell “BooBam” Turner

2023 - WR - 6’0 - 160 - Duncanville HS

On a loaded Duncanville squad with a bevy of playmakers such as Roderick Daniels and Chris Hicks, Lontrell, or as everyone calls him, BooBam, has made a name for himself and is becoming a homerun hitter with the ball in his hands. Although, he is a bit thin right now, he is still a sophomore and it does not limit his abilities. He gets behind defenders and finds the endzone. He finished the game over Desoto with 6 receptions for 92 yards and touchdown. He was also responsible for one of the biggest jaw dropping plays of the game when he hurdled a defender on his way to the endzone. With Daniels and Hicks moving onto college after this year, Turner is primed to be one of the top playmakers on the team.

Kyle Lofye

2022 - OL - 6’4 - 280 - Frisco Lone Star HS

Lone Star has always been known for producing skill players but Kyle Lofye (Low-fee) is a dominating offenisve lineman that will get major college looks. He is an overpowering body that has great hand placement and technique. I believe his future is at guard but he has some great film at tackle. He went head on with 5 star Texas signee Ja’Tavion Sanders and utterly dominated him. He is what you would describe as “country strong” and he plays with a level of nastiness that you love to see. He does not hold any offers yet but he has heard from SFA, Texas Tech, Iowa State, Colorado State and University of New Mexico. Someone close to him has told me “he wants to be a Big 12 lineman”.

DJ Bailey

2024 - QB - 5’10 - 160 - Desoto HS

This one is a bit different as Bailey did not play in the playoffs but this is a guy who I have very big hopes for in the future. Desoto has had Illinois signee Samari Collier as their starting quarterback for the past several seasons. DJ Bailey is being considered the next big name behind center for the Eagles. In fact, many people are confident he is better. He has a big time arm for a being a freshman is certainly a name that will pop in the class of 2024.

I've begun my very own Recruiting Star gig with a very simple Recruiting Star philosophy that most of my more established competitors secretly utilize while attempting to make themselves appear more like scouts, prophets and sages than they in truth really are.

If Nick Saban and/or Dabo Swinney really want them then they are a 5 Star. Everyone else is a 3 Star.

So, Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney's teams are so good because I gave their players 5 Stars... or those players got my 5 Stars because they were going to play for Saban and Swinney... ahhh, wait... I'm getting myself dizzy now...
