STILLWATER – Imagine working toward something, dreaming of it for most of your life. You’re 19-years-old and you’ve watched a lot of quarterbacks that weren’t nearly as successful as you, quarterbacks you grew up with and you know from being side-by-side with many of them that they had not worked as hard as you did.

I'm intrigued and enthused. I was in the stands when Mike Gundy was called on to find his helmet and go in to replace the starter....Harold Bailey if I remember correctly. If the Gunnar version of Gundy QB's is as sharp and entertaining as the Mike version, we're in for a fun 4 or 5 years. Go Pokes!

He replaced Ronnie Williams in the Houston game.

Memory can be a funny thing

Mike Gundy's stats as a Senior (1989):

Passing
164 completions on 287 attempts for 2,203 yards, 14 TD's, 9 INT's

Rushing
-37 yards on 66 attempts, 3 TD's

Record: 4-7

Contrary to much popular belief within the Cowboy Nation, Mike Gundy did NOT win Barry Sanders' Heisman Trophy... Barry Sanders did.

Barry Sanders was not a Cowboy in 1989 (Gundy's senior year). (and Thurman was gone, and Dykes.... but run your silly narrative)

none-the-less, to the other poster's point ..

NOV. 5, 1989
12 AM

FROM ASSOCIATED PRESS
Mike Gundy threw for 429 yards, third best passing day in Big Eight history, to lift Oklahoma State to a 37-24 victory over Kansas Saturday at Lawrence, Kan.

Gundy, the Big Eight career leader in passing and total offense, completed his first 10 passes. He finished 27 for 35 and surpassed the school single-game record by 56 yards.

(Hudson had 113 receiving and 106 rushing in the game)

LOL!

1989 was, or should have been, the apex of Mike Gundy's college career. It was his senior season hence the stats highlighted... and that was his value to OSU without Barry Sanders.

4-7

In 1989, in the NFL, we also saw what Barry Sanders value was without Mike Gundy (1989 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and 1st Team NFL All-Pro).

Did you watch Mike Gundy's play in that Nebraska film from '88 game... even with Sanders and Dykes? All you need watch is the first half to get an idea, Cal.

Hate to burst your bubble, Cal, but Mike Gundy did not win Barry Sanders' Heisman Trophy.

you're not busting anything..... there is no denying what I posted... I even put it IN BOLD for you

Let's talk about what I put in bold, instead of your anti-Cowboy agenda.

We would be very fortunate if Gunnar ended up playing like Mike.... no two ways about it. Very fortunate.

I can't see far into the future but I think Gunnar can surly do better than 4-7 if he's starting when he's a Senior... or at least I hope he can.

So 429 of Gundy's 2,203 total passing yards his Senior Season, came in just one game against Kansas? Wow!

Guess he was making up for that season opening stinker against Tulsa (OSU 10 - Tulsa 20).

Thanks for pointing that out, Cal.

Your narratives and rants are your narratives and rants. I wanted to ignore you, but just can't - I actually look forward to reading your off-the-wall and goofy posts. Not crazy about the whines and the negativity, but I can't help looking for your next train wrecks

That being said - I was in the stadium for every game that Mike Gundy played in, and there is NOBODY that can discount the fun and entertainment he brought to the games. You can point to whatever selective stats or parsed data or slanted slights, but the fact is QBMG was entertaining and he was GOOD on the field. I watched him stand facemask-to-facemask with Brian Bosworth trading trash talk multiple times, refusing to be intimidated by college football's prime intimidator. THAT was fun!

I was at everyone of those games too, Canadian... I even stayed in the "Rust Bowl" through 0-10-1... and beyond.

Guess the difference between you and I is that I didn't enjoy 4-7 and closing that 1989 season out with back-to-back home losses to Colorado and to Iowa State. I didn't think that those games nor that season was "good"... and unlike you, I didn't think his 0-fer as a player in Bedlam was "fun" either.

I suppose that is why I was never under the delusion that he won Barry Sanders' Heisman Trophy.

I just wish he would quit posting, or the board could be changed so that we could see who entered a new comment before we had to bother clicking on it.

it just such a waste of precious time, looking for something interesting to read or discuss, only to find just another bash at the program.

You must have watched the first half of that 1988 OSU at Nebraska game video.

Sorry!

I find it amazing that so many of my fellow Cowboy faithful could watch that 1988 OSU vs Nebraska game in person or on TV in real time -- that they could have felt that same disappointment and agony at every Gundy INT in the first half (like I did) -- that they could have gone through that and the entire '89 season which was ominously marred by the dark clouds of "near-death-penalty" probation looming overhead -- that they could experience all of that and yet somehow manage to forget all else except how great they think that they remember Mike Gundy being... Mike Gundy, first and foremost.

I really question whether these Gundy Groupies stayed with the school and the program (like I did) through probation and 0-10-1 -- or if after their "sunshine soldier" desertion and abandonment during the tough times (when Gundy was Probation Pat's OC) -- if then and only then did they show back up when things began to improve to complain about Bob Simmons' newly wrought Bedlam parity as if they still maintained inherent rights of self-righteous indignation... and as if they still do?

I watched it .... we kicked NUs butt for the next 3 quarters, but we could not overcome that bad start.

Very disappointing.

Hey, remember that season when he threw that dropped pass to Parker too?

I see your point, what kind of QB throws dropped passes... lynch him

Bless your heart.

He was a better QB than Tom Brady is and always will be in your mind no doubt... but that's OK, Cal... you just keep running with that. Better him than some Squatter.
