Cowboys Offer Two 2025 Quarterbacks and Find a Giant 15-year-old Offensive Tackle at Camp
STILLWATER – First things first as Oklahoma State wrapped up their summer camp season with that final prospect minicamp on Saturday, July 30. The Oklahoma State players report for fall camp on Monday and most of these high school players will be reporting for their practices in the next week and a half. Edmond Santa Fe 2024 defensive end and one of the Cowboys top targets Bergin Kysar did not make it to the camp after he enrolled. No issue there, it wasn’t needed for the Cowboys staff to see him again. Kysar was at three Oklahoma State camps in June and the recruiting relationship with him and the staff is solid. Kysar wasn’t there, but Oklahoma State found a quarterback, actually two in the 2025 class. They had some linebackers that stood out, several offensive linemen that look very promising, and a spectator brought to Stillwater by former player Ethan Howell that people could not take their eyes off of.
A pair of relationships that were built stronger and forged with scholarship offers were with Keller (Central), Texas 2025 quarterback recruit Kelden Ryan and Mississippi 2025 quarterback prospect Emille Picarella.
The 6-2, 190-pound quarterback from St. Joseph Catolic School in Madison, Miss. came in and threw really well.
You can see him throwing in the video right in front of quarterbacks coach Tim Rattay. Picarella; who now has offers from Akron, Mississippi State, Mississippi, Oregon, and Pittsburgh in addition to the Cowboys; really threw the ball well.
Ryan is a dual threat performer that threw the ball well and ran well with a 40-time in the 4.5 range. He has offers from 12 schools including Arkansas, Baylor, Pittssburgh, SMU, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, and Washington State.
Ryaan, Picarella and Tulsa Union sophomore quarterback Shaker Reisig were competing and putting on a show. I think Reisig, who already has several offers, will soon add one from Oklahoma State too.
They weren’t the only ones. There were over 40 quarterbacks among the over 200 players in the camp. That total was over 200 despite about 50 no shows that had signed up, but may have altered plans with high school practice set to begin so soon.
There were 2026 quarterbacks and a few local players waiting to make high school debuts like Conner Quintero that will be a back-up at Stillwater as a freshman and Mason Schubert, another 2025 at Morrison that will make his debut.
There were several linebacker prospects that got noticed such as Erik Macklin (6-1, 200) from Morris, Okla. He is a two-way player that has a chance and was more impressive as the camp went on. A similar player from Muenster, Texas is Colton Deckard (6-3, 195) that rushed for 1,960-yards and 26 touchdowns last season and played every play on defense as well. Then from Edmond Santa Fe there was Isaiah Lewis (6-1, 195), who moved in from Frisco and Little Elm High School. All three of those players are 2023 prospects and seniors. They are all three prime developmental linebackers that typically fit in the OSU system with the likes of a Rob Glass as a strength coach.
The offensive line had some very viable prospects leading with Jamison Mejia of Broken Arrow. The former tight end is now all the way at offensive tackle and is 6-5, 265-pounds and athletic. He could be the finishing piece to the offensive line in the 2023 recruiting class. There were a couple of 2024 prospects there too in Norman North’s Harrison Utley who has an Iowa State offer and then 6-8 ½, 250-pound Kaeden Massey from little Lyndon, Kan. Massey is one of those guys that plays football, basketball, and he was All-State in track throwing the shot, discus, and javelin.
However, I may be accused of burying the lead here. It doesn’t top a quarterback scholarship offer, but former Cowboy receiver and kick returner Ethan Howell brought Byron Washington to Stillwater to check it out.
“I liked the energy from the TCU vs. OSU game last year. I just like how the coach made me feel at home,” Washington said.
Okay, maybe we missed him visiting for the 63-17 win over the Horned Frogs last season, but how? How could we miss Byron? He is 6-8 and estimated around 360-pounds. Washington just turned 15-years-old two weeks ago. He is just a sophomore for DeSoto, Texas for next season. Just check him out! He is huge. He said he bench presses 315-pounds, but Ethan Howell showed me the video. That wasn’t a max as he was playing with that weight. He can easily do more. Now, Washington said he has worked with a strength coach and he plans to work on shaping up. He really should try to get to 320-pounds. He needs to push himself with his reps and footwork. Simply put, only God can bestow the gift of that kind of frame on a young man. If he will take advantage of it then the sky is the limit for Washington. Get this too. He haas a 3.4 GPA so he is more than just a big offensive tackle prospect.
He has no offers as of now. He just moved to DeSoto, Texas from Monroe, La. He is definitely a prospect to watch. I noticed that Cowboys offensive line coach Charlie Dickey, recruiting prospect analyst Zach Allen, and graduate assistant Brayden Kearsley were having trouble keeping their eyes off of him.
It’s fun to get in on a prospect like that so young and follow them through the process. A good day at camp when someone that looks like Byron Washington shows up.
