Cowboys Named to Additional Watch Lists on Monday
- DE Brock Martin -
Oklahoma State defensive end Brock Martin is one of 77 FBS players on the preseason watch list for the 2022 Rotary Lombardi Award, it was announced Monday by the Rotary Club of Houston.
Martin is one of 10 players from the Big 12 named to the watch list, and one of just three from the conference at the defensive end position. The Rotary Lombardi Award annually goes to the college football offensive or defensive lineman, who in addition to outstanding performance and ability, best exemplifies the character and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame head coach Vince Lombardi.
Martin heads into his super senior season as one of nine Cowboys who have elected to take advantage of their extra season of eligibility. An established veteran on the defensive side of the ball, Martin's 50 career games played in are the most on the OSU roster and his 22 career starts are tied for second most on the defense entering 2022. He comes off his best season of his career in 2021 where he was selected to the All-Big 12 First Team by the coaches in the conference after racking up 41 tackles, which were most on the OSU defensive line, and ranked second in sacks (9.0) and third in tackles for loss (14.0).
The Lombardi Award winner will be chosen from the four finalists named in November. Committee members will then vote to select the winner they regard as the best lineman in college football. The finalists will be unveiled on Nov. 23 and the winner will be selected on Dec. 7.
- LS Matt Hembrough -
Oklahoma State All-America long snapper Matt Hembrough is one of 25 FBS players included on the watch list for the 2022 Patrick Mannelly Award, announced Monday by the Mannelly Award.
Hembrough, who was a second team All-America selection by the AFCA last season, is one of just three Big 12 players on the watch list for the honor, which is presented annually to the player judged to be the best FBS long snapper.
OSU's starting long snapper for both punts and place kicks each of the past three seasons, Hembrough has been perfect on more than 375 career snaps, including more than 185 snaps each on both punts and place kicks. In 2021, he was perfect on 149 total snaps during the season, ranking as the third-most snaps of any FBS long snapper according to Pro Football Focus. PFF also listed him as the highest graded overall FBS long snapper with a minimum of 140 snaps on the year.
A Lisle, Illinois native, Hembrough is one of nine OSU super seniors on the 2022 roster. He was also included on the Patrick Mannelly Award watch list in 2021 and is a three-time first team Academic All-Big 12 team selection.
The Mannelly Award was created in 2019 and benefits Bernie's Book Bank, a non-profit organization located in Lake Bluff, Illinois. The 10 semifinalists for the honor will be announced on November 14 and three finalists will be announced November 28. The winner will then be announced live at the award ceremony in Lake Bluff on December 10.
