STILLWATER – Football season is finally closing in as fall camps have started. With real football to talk about some of the summer narratives in college football have moved to the backburner. The NCAA Division I Board has tabled the initiatives recommended for the transfer portal. Realignment is still being talked about, but it is doubtful any movement will take place on the brink of the kickoff for the 2022 season.

The whole Jarrick Barnard - Converse situation hit home for me when I heard some of the numbers that were being mentioned that he got in NIL (pay for play) from LSU!!! I figured if I am going to complain about things with athletics and have the means, which I do, then a certain amount of money going to the collectives to help athletes with the NIL situation was something I could do! If it helps keep a player like a Colin Oliver here then that is a positive!!! I do agree with Robert and Coach Gundy that hopefully legislation proposed by Tommy Tuberville can put up the proper guard rails and slam the brakes on out of control situations.

Congress has no jurisdiction in this matter... that's fools chasing a unicorn.

Sadly there is only one outcome, which is the demise of college football, and/or the emergence of a semi-pro league.

The NCAA (or other university collective governing body) is the only one that can implement authority over the situation by establishing the rules of membership. A split of the schools into those who pay and those who follow a different set of rules.

Personally, I hope OSU does not follow the unlimited payment route.

I'm as lost as the next person as to what we do while we await the collapse.

Congress will do nothing. They could care less about this stuff. The more we think its going to get fixed and don't jump into this, the more we will get left behind. CC: SMU, Texas Tech, TCU, etc..

We don't have the rabid booster $ flowing like the SEC teams do or like UT does. This is just a legal way to do what some schools have been doing for decades and the way dirty programs like 0u built their foundation in the mid 40's, but it sucks losing out to recruits for a shortsighted 25k when they would be better developed here.

All of this aside, a move to the SEC for any school and you'd better be ready to pony up with the extra benefits, legal or not. I'm sure 0u is developing a brand new, Wilkinson-style slush fund as we speak. Are we prepared to do what's going to be necessary to compete in the SEC if we get that invite down the road? I don't know.
