Spencer Sanders Named Earl Campbell Award Player of the Week
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders was named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week following his performance against Central Michigan.
Sanders went an impressive 28-of-41 through the air with 406 yards and four touchdowns. He also accounted for two rushing touchdowns as he rushed for 57 yards on 11 carries.
Following his first half performance of going 20-of-29 for 313 passing yards and three touchdowns and five carries for 49 yards and two touchdowns, Sanders became just the second player in Big 12 history to throw for at least 300 yards, three passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in a half, joining Patrick Mahomes who did so in 2016.
Another impressive first half stat from Thursday season opener was provided by Oklahoma State Athletics media relations: “From halftime of the Fiesta Bowl through halftime of the Central Michigan game, Spencer Sanders completed 43 of 59 attempts for 549 yards and five touchdowns through the air and had 16 carries for 139 yards and two scores rushing.”
He’s also now just eight wins away from surpassing Mason Rudolph as the winningest quarterback in OSU history.
Sanders gets his chance to add to his stat sheet and win record this coming Saturday as the Pokes play host to Arizona State.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN2.
