Terry Miller To Be Honored During Arizona State Game

STILLWATER – As it was announced several months ago and pushed all week, Oklahoma State will be honoring one of the greatest to ever suit up in the orange and black this coming Saturday during the Arizona State game: Terry Miller.

Miller is being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in the 2022 class, an honor which many people felt was long overdue.

During his career in Stillwater, Miller carried the ball 871 times for 4,754 yards and 49 touchdowns and a total of 294 points. He averaged 113.2 yards a game, while also averaging 5.46 yards per carry.

He was tabbed the Big Eight Offensive Player of the Year twice, as well as a two-time consensus All-American.

His final two seasons for the Cowboys were incredible as he rushed for 1,887 yards and 27 touchdowns, both career-highs, in 1976. He posted similar numbers in 1977, the year he finished as Heisman runner-up behind Texas back Earl Campbell, as his posted 1,680 yards.

In total, he finished with three 1,000+ yard seasons.

“The word team, that’s the first thing I always think about,” Terry Miller told Tom Dirato on Triple Play Sports Radio. “I get the glory because of the work they’ve done; I’ve always been that way. I believe you’re only as good as somebody made you and we worked hard and had some success and now, finally, I get an opportunity to say I appreciate them, and hopefully they appreciate me.”

Miller was incredibly humble during the interview, not once taking credit for his success on the field. To Miller, his success came from the other 10 guys on the field blocking for him to pick up those yards, or to the coach who designed and called the plays and schemes.

“As I think back on that, it’s all about why we’re here today, is that the guys that I played with are the ones that are really…Going into the Hall of Fame, not me, I’m just a part of that 11 or 22,” Miller emotionally said.

When asked about the ceremony honoring him, he was just as gracious as he was giving his answer about going into the CFB Hall of Fame, or his Heisman runner-up.

“I’m just glad to be able to get down [to the field] unassisted and I will cherish the moment for the rest of my life.”
