Recruits Show Up & Out for UAPB Sellout Game

STILLWATER, Okla.– Tonight’s game against the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff was nothing special to watch on the competition side of things. When it comes to recruiting, however, a sellout crowd and a blowout win for the Cowboys is a great atmosphere for potential Cowboys to experience.

In the first three sections closest to the field in the west endzone, recruits and their families appeared to be more than happy to be at Boone Pickens Stadium, surrounded by the electric feel that comes with an OSU gameday.

Some 2023 committed players in attendance included Jakobe Sanders (Stillwater), Poasa Utu (Kennedale), Jaedon Foreman (Del City) and Dylan Smith (Braswell).

In addition to these commits, several 2024 prospects sat in on the game including Kobe Black (China Spring), Joshua Smith (Crandall), and Markus Boswell (Lake Travis), along with several others.

“We want them to know and understand that this place is special,” defensive coordinator Derek Mason said. “That’s why I’m here, I thought this place was special and three games in I don’t feel any different. I just think the gameday atmosphere, what this place is, how this community has embraced not just the football part of it but for me, I'm an OSU fan. When it’s all said and done, why wouldn’t you come here?”

After talking to Jakobe Sanders after the Stillwater vs. Norman game on Friday night, it’s not uncommon for prospects and commits to envision themselves playing a potential role in this dynamic Oklahoma State team and I don’t doubt that that’s what several recruits did tonight.

“Any time you score that many points it’s good for recruiting,” offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn said. “The defense did a great job too, they locked everything down and gave us a good picture of what this program is all about. It was a good picture out there from the box, the stadium looked great. It was a sellout opportunity and I think we made the most of it.”

As the season progresses, I expect Mason’s statement to remain true. The gameday atmosphere and the team dynamic among the Cowboys are becoming increasingly difficult to beat and set Oklahoma State apart from some of the top universities in the nation.
