Publisher’s Note: McDonald is being recruited by one of the Cowboys top recruiter’s in Tim Duffie. The program will do everything in their power, within the rules, to get McDonald. However, they won’t buy him. Percentages on situation like this of a player re-committing to the school he de-committed from anr very low. As Gundy has said, the program does best with the players that want to be at Oklahoma State and accept the culture the program uses as it’s backbone. My guess is he will end up at Texas or elsewhere.

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is now down a commitment in the 2023 class. Jelani McDonald, a defensive back/athlete out of Waco (TX) Connally, took to Twitter Tuesday afternoon to announce he’s reopened his recruiting process.

McDonald, who committed to the Cowboys back on July 1, is listed at 6-2, 190 pounds and has very quickly garnered a lot of interest from Texas in the past few months. He’s currently listed as a four-star prospect and checks in as the No. 101 overall prospect in the class, the No. 3 overall athlete and the No. 22 prospect out of Texas, according to On3.

He was in Austin, TX, on an unofficial visit for the 24-21 win over Iowa State. He was scheduled to be in Stillwater this past weekend for the Cowboys’ game against Texas, but he wasn’t in attendance.

McDonald does just about everything for Connally this season. He’s currently 13-of-30 passing for 256 yards and five touchdowns, 53 carries for 536 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. He’s got 14 total tackles, 5.0 of which have been tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks and one interception in six games.

The Cowboys currently hold nine commitments in the 2023 class, including four-star quarterback Zane Flores, four-star defensive end Jaedon Foreman and four-star safety Kam Franklin.
