Over/Under: Five Thoughts on OSU's Road Game Against Kansas State

October 28, 2022

STILLWATER – We’ve started a new game-week series here at Pokes Report called Over/Under. It’ll be five topics with an over/under associated to them. You’ll then drop your predictions in the comments below on how you think they’ll turn out.

No. 9 Oklahoma State is coming off a 41-34 come-from-behind win over No. 20 Texas this past weekend on Homecoming. The Cowboys will once again be in a top-25 matchup as they face No. 22 Kansas State on the road in Manhattan, KS. The Wildcats are coming off a 38-28 loss to No. 8 TCU this past week.

Be sure and drop down to the comment section and comment on how you think each topic will turn out.

The first Over/Under will be Spencer Sanders: Over/Under 350 total yards of offense

Spencer is currently undefeated against the Wildcats during his career, having gone 3-0. In those games, he’s gone 52-of-82 passing for 605 yards and three touchdowns, with three interceptions. He’s also posted 35 carries for 79 yards and one touchdown. You can also see the growth in his game, as well as the improvement of the offensive line throughout these three games. Spencer has been very good this season, so can he combine for at least 350 total yards of offense?

OSU run game: Over/Under 140 yards

The Cowboys have struggled to run the ball at times this season, but were fairly decent against the Longhorns last week having rushed for 142 yards. As a defense, K-State is holding opponents to 144.6 yards on the ground per game. Can the Cowboys clear last week’s mark?

Kansas State scoring: Over/Under 28 points

Oklahoma State’s defense was pretty salty in the second half of the Texas game last week as they held the Longhorns to just three points, a field goal in the third quarter. Looking at the comparison between OSU’s defense and KSU’s offense, the scoring is fairly similar as the Pokes are holding offenses to 28.7 points per game, while the Wildcats are scoring 28.5 points per game. Can the Cowboys hold KSU to their average?

OSU defense tackles for loss: Over/Under six

The Cowboys are one of the best teams in the country when it comes to tackles for loss as their averaging 8.6 per game. I set this number a little low as they recorded five against Texas last week. As a defense, the Wildcats are giving up 4.86 per game.

OSU kick return: Over/Under 20 yards per return

Oklahoma State has been pretty decent this season on kick returns, especially Brennan Presley and Jaden Nixon. This past week against Texas, the Pokes averaged 20 yards per return. The Wildcats are holding opponents to 18.4 yards per return on the season. Can the Cowboys clear the 20-yard mark?

How do you think this offense is going to run for 140 yards.
Nixon or Gordon starting. LOL

I do believe Gundy will force the ground game eventhough KSU has proven to be tough against the run. Saying that, Ollie Gordon will have a break out day. Not a super break out day, but one that will get him more attempts as the season progresses.
Still, it will be under the 149 o/u mark.

I also believe there will be a sluggish hangover from last week's awesome comeback against UT. KSI is having their homecoming and they'll be fired up.

Sanders will have to manage this game extremely well but it's not going to be an easy game. KSU matches up well against us.

I see the game staying within 3 points and I hope those are our 3 points that win it.
I know there are rules, but do we really want to follow them now?

Yeah, not sure it will. The outmatch is with their ground game and deuce. Even though the QBs are sore, just too much in their backfield for the young LBs to contest. It's their homecoming. Might be a looooong day and flight back to Stillwater.

Crazed Stallion,
I can't figure out if you're a closet ou fan or not. You sound just like an old fraternity brother of mine that couldn't make it to class in Stillwater, finally his father pulled the plug and broght him home, but in the long run, he became a gooner fan and is one of the most negative "osu fans" (he says he is).
I want to just think you're a Cowboy fan that's a bit on the negative side. GO POKES@

He's a Gundy hater. He can't predict good things for the Pokes because that would reflect too well on Gundy. He's back himself into a corner, and the only way out is for the Cowboys, and therefore Gundy, to fail.

No idea what you're talking about. Just saying that Kstate is a better team.

Lol, nope. Just think Kstate is a better team and that OSU can't got to the little apole and win. Kstate has a better all around team. Kinda what happens when you recruit better.

Like you thought:

Baylor was better and would win 45-17
TCU was better and would win 56-24
Texas was better and would win.

KState recruits better than Gundy? Name one KState recruiting class that outranked OSU. I'll wait.

They are better. Lol. Texas won't lose another game. Baylor had a hiccup and TCU is undefeated. Anymore questions. The refs swallowed a lot of whistles in the Texas game for both sides. If they call 1 penalty against OSU Texas wins. TCU was flat out dominating OSU and there is nothing they could about it in the second half. Baylor was a young team and damn near came back save for a late penalty.

Okay, I'll play.

Did Baylor hiccup again against WVU? I think they have a case of hiccups because they're gonna lose 2 more.
If Sanders isn't hurt, we win in Ft Worth, easy.
How's UT gonna win out with no QB?

they're a "better team", based on what? They are 3-1 in conference and have not played any of the conference leading teams except TCU, which they lost. They also lost to freaking Tulane.

Martinez is a game time decision, and Deuce Vaughn is not 100%.

I'm just curious how you've come to that conclusion that KState is better. Playing in Manhattan adds some difficulty, but you did not include that as a factor.

Crazed_Stallion

Martinez is fine and will play. Gundy was right about that. They aren't rolling into this game with their backup. If they do, OSU loses by 21. Deuce is also better. If we played them the last 2 weeks it would be different. Sure looked healthy on that 40yard+ TD last week.

Texas has a great QB. First road game and threw the picks. Remember Sanders did all of those picks at TT his freshman year.
Even if Sanders is heathy that team isn't beating TCU.

Just like you said Sanders wouldn't play v TCU.

Just so everyone can keep score of your brilliant analyses and predictions, you predicted OSU would lose by:

28 to Baylor
32 to TCU
Now 21 to KSU

Name the last college QB that had a game where he completed less than 40% of his passes on at least 30 attempts. 35 attempts? 40 attempts? 45 attempts?

So if Sanders is 100% v TCU, that wouldn't be worth 1 more pt in regulation? I know you've bashed Sanders in the past, but this take is downright stupid.

Sanders is just ok. He's like a rb at an. Can't throw it, but can run it.

An okay QB that completed 60% of his passes last week. Same field against a pass defense you've repeatedly said is terrible, the UT QB completes 38% - and you say he's great. Don't quit your day job, because you have no clue.

RA reported this week he thinks Woodard may be out for a while.

It's one game. For several weeks Sanders percentage was under 50% which is pathetic and should be bench worthy, except there isn't any QBs on the roster worth power 5 offers. Our recruiting has been dreadful at that position.

Several weeks, pathetic huh?
UT - 60%
TCU (hurt) - 44%
TT - (hurt) - 49%
BU - 69%
PB - 81%
ASU - 55%
CMU - 68%

If Sanders is pathetic and should be benched, Ewers should be cut from the team.

I know you're used to embarrassing yourself, but here's a pro tip: Don't say stupid stuff.
