STILLWATER – The line was out the side door and around the front of the building on Elm Street. Eskimo Joes was rocking with their first venture into NIL with Oklahoma State athletes. They picked a good one to start with Spencer Sanders. Eskimo Joes founder and CEO Stan Clark had a big smile on his face.

Clark wasn’t sure about an NIL deal but Sanders was convincing in his personality.

The Cowboys quarterback has a 32-8 record as a starting quarterback for the Pokes. He has thrown for 9,088-yards and 65 touchdowns with 36 interceptions. he has run for 1,908-yards and 18 touchdowns. Sanders is good looking, personable, and all that adds up to popular.

“Well, I can tell you that I’m kind of old school and I wasn’t really looking for this,” Clark said of the shirt and NIL deal with Sanders. “We got a call from one of Spencer’s relatives and she said he might want to visit with us. Of course, I’d like to meet him and I thought it would fun to visit, and I really didn’t think it would go anywhere. When we met him he was just so humble, unassuming, and gracious. We liked him and before we knew it we were all in with Spencer, Eskimo Joe, and Pistol Pete. It’s a full blown Spencer, Eskimo Joe, and Pete shirt and I wanted to have the slogan Loyal and True there.”

That loyal and true on the shirt could be telling in Sanders’ future, but more on that later. The back of the shirt is even more awesome than the front. It is also awesome that Sanders’ charity of choice Make a Wush Foundation will also reap financial benefits from the project and Sanders’ appearance at Eskimo Joes.

“He’s a dual threat and hook line is Catch Me if You Can,” added Clark.

Sanders said he loves the shirts, but hey, wouldn’t anybody love a shirt that features them.

“I think it looks great and I’m really blessed to be presented the opportunity (to work) with such great people,” Sanders explained of his feelings about it all. “I really am. It’s just whatever I can do.”

Okay, now back to the loyal and true. Sanders has a decision to make on his future. Amazingly, Sanders has another season to play for Oklahoma State if he chooses. It would be his COVID 19 pandemic season, his super senior season. He could also go to the NFL or there is a growing fear some other Power Five school in need of a quarterback would put together a huge NIL deal to lure Sanders away. Our sources say that has probably been taken care of.

I asked Sanders if he has made his decision?

“I put some thought into it,” Sanders said starting his answer. “It is probably a decision that I will make in a couple of weeks. It’ll come out.”

We will stay on top of that. Hey, maybe it could become the second in a series of shirts with the folks at Eskimo Joes.
