Cowboys Offer and Target Dartmouth Transfer Defensive Lineman Shane Cokes

November 29, 2022

STILLWATER – Monday night (Nov. 28) Oklahoma State offered NEO A&M Junior College defensive tackle Iman Oates and the next day they have offered Dartmouth College standout Shane Cokes. While Oates is a definite defensive tackle, Cokes is versatile and could likely play inside and out at defensive end where he has shown a lot of prowess in pressuring quarterbacks.

The 6-3, 275-pound Cokes finished this past season for the 3-7 Big Green with 54 tackles, 28 unassisted, 8.5-tackles-for-loss for losses of 43-yards and 4.5 sacks for negative 28-yards. He also had two quarterback hurries and he forced a fumble. His performance earned him second-team All-Ivy League for the second season in a row.

As a junior he had 32 tackles to lead all Dartmouth big defensive linemen and he had 5.5 tackles-for-loss and 4.0 sacks.

A Government major and a graduate student allowing him along with playing FCS Division I to go into the transfer portal this week instead of next. Cokes would have two-years of eligibility as the Ivy League cancelled their 2020 season during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cokes has a classic flat back stance. Impressive.

He currently has offers from West Virginia, Purdue, UConn, Washington State, UMass, and Coastal Carolina in addition to Oklahoma State. Watching Cokes he has quickness and explosion and plays with a flat back and drive to attack the opposing backfield. Look at him in his stance. Fundamentally, it doesn’t get better looking than that.

In high school at Chaminade-Julienne in Dayton, Ohio he earned Ohio Division III All-State honors and was named the Ohio Southwest Defensive Player of the Year and the Catholic Leagues Defensive Player of the Year. An honors student he had offers from Dartmouth, harvard, Yale, Cornell. Columbia, Army, Air Force, Akron, and Kent State.

He has proven now he can take his game to a higher level.
