Cowboys Dodge Benton at Nose Tackle in Bowl Game
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State will be missing quarterback Spencer Sanders and linebacker Mason Cobb. Wisconsin saw their starting quarterback Graham Mertz go in the NCAA Transfer Portal and now the Badgers will lose one of their most experienced and talented defensive linemen in Keeanu Benton. On Friday (Dec. 9) Benton announced on Twitter that he will skip the Guaranteed Rate Bowl and the game with Oklahoma State to ready himself for his opportunity to play in the NFL.
The 6-4, 315-pound Benton has played in 45 games and started 36 of those in his four years in the UW program. This past season he started all 12 games at nose tackle and finished with 35 tackles, 20 unassisted. He also had 10 tackles-for-loss, 4.5 sacks, with two passes deflected and two quarterback hurries.
His career numbers include 80 tackles, 19 tackles-for-loss, and nine sacks. Benton is part of a defensive line that allowed just 305-yards of total offense a game and were especially stingy on the run game allowing jsut 103-yards a game and 3.0-yards per carry.
Oklahoma State will play Wisconsin in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl inside Chase Field in Phoenix at 9:15 CT on Dec. 27.
