Oklahoma State Target Taje McCoy Commits to Prime and Colorado

STILLWATER – After years towards the bottom of the Pac-12, it appears Boulder, Colorado, has once again become a Prime landing spot for college football prospects.

Putnam City edge rusher, and one of Oklahoma State’s remaining top high school prospects in the 2023 class, Taje McCoy announced via The Oklahoman his commitment to Colorado University and new head coach Deion Sanders.

“I want to thank God,” McCoy wrote in his commitment article in The Oklahoman. “Without him it would not be possible. I want to thank my mom, dad and my family for taking care of me and supporting me. I want to thank all my coaches for seeing something in me and putting my name out there. I want to thank Carter Whitson, Rufus Alexander, Le Jones, Tucker Calmus and Mark Johnson, my little league coach, and every other coach who worked with me over the years.

“I’m humbled and blessed to announce that I will be playing — and dominating — at the University of Colorado,” McCoy continued. “I plan on dominating for the next three years. 

McCoy is a 6-3, 245-pound prospect recorded 97 tackles this season as senior, including 16 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, four fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles. Including his junior season, McCoy recorded 186 total tackles, 34 tackles for loss and 17 sacks.

Oklahoma State will continue to look for prospects to round out the 2023 class, both HS and transfer alike. The Cowboys are currently sitting at 15 commits, with two commits coming Monday morning, Western Michigan running back Sean Tyler and Washington State receiver De’Zhaun Stribling, and there are several more talented transfers the OSU coaches are in on.

McCoy committing to CU is a loss as the Cowboy coaching staff was working hard to land him before Signing Day. The situation at Colorado is certainly an interesting one, one in which CU donors are going to have to cough up a lot of money with four and five-star high school and transfer prospects committing left and right, most of which will receive some rather hefty NIL deals. We’ll see if Deion has what it takes to not only build a talented roster, but to have success at this level.
