STILLWATER – The action is almost too fast to follow as transfer portal prospects are cramming in visits before campuses close for the holidays and bowl teams get on a plane and head to their destinations. We learned on Tuesday that Virginia quarterback and graduate transfer prospect Brennan Armstrong will be in Stillwater on Wednesday, Dec. 13. Today the Cowboys hosted one of the better looking safety prospects in the portal in Tulsa’s Kendarin Ray.

Ray appears to be a really good prospect as long as he can keep from being injured - which is a distinct risk with a physical player. But I like him…I hope we compare favorably vs the Hawgs. I mean, who wouldn't rather be a Cowboy than a pig…?

I don't understand why we are going after all these Tulsa defensive players in the portal. Tulsa had one of the worst defenses in the FBS this year. They ranked 123 in rushing defense, 115 in scoring defense, 113 in red zone defense, and 99 in total defense. Do we really expect them to improve our defense that ranked 116 in total defense?

yes. They can be the missing pieces.

one player does not make a defense. Look at their contributions, and not the achievements of the team.

your comment is akin to claiming we should not have taken Rodriguez because he came from a small school that didn't do all that well... etc.

what would your suggestion be for a player that might better fit those positions?

better yet.... what do you think of his accomplishments at TU? (below) Coach Monty says he's NFL caliber

prior to the start of 2022 season

including 2022 season
Ray enjoyed an excellent 2022 season, starting every game. He finished third on the Golden Hurricane with 86 tackles, while contributing a team-high three forced fumbles, one interception, five pass breakups, one fumble recovery and two quarterback hurries.

It does look like Ray has a very good PFF grade of about 68 and Wright has a good grade of 61 (both were considered top 5 for their position of those available in the portal).

Which probably explains why they are sought after!
