Armstrong Still Deciding and Another Intriguing Possibility Enters the Portal

This guy is almost 30 years old. His completion percentage is pedestrian because he lacks accuracy. I've watched him play and don't feel he is accurate enough to be successful in the Big Twelve.

Aune isn't accurate enough to be an upgrade over our present pup quarterbacks. We need more accuracy if we're going after a portal quarterback to start so our young ones can mature.

I agree also watched him a couple times and both games he threw passes under pressure that were gifts to the other team. Armstrong would be a great pick-up, but not sold on the NTU guy. What OL are we still after in the portal. To me that is the most important thing we can get help with. Our OL needs help.

We have one supposedly coming in, a center, after the bowl game.

Neither Armstrong or Aune is 60% in completion percentage for their careers but then Spencer was baely 60% for his career here! This QB seems less careless with the ball as he has a lot fewer interceptions than Spencer or Armstrong!!! Completion percentage says as much about your receiver corps as it does the QB.

I saw him vs Boise St and he looked to know how to operate in a similar offense.

This would be ok only if they also get Armstrong. Aune is inaccurate against bad competition. Would not be a good pick up. 54 percent in Conference USA.

Let's play Rangel, Gundy and Flores. Let's move on with our program and encourage the 5th and 6th year
professional college players to get jobs in real life.

Nothing against Aune but 100% out on adding him. Mediocre at best at UNT against average teams and I'd rather ride with Rangel and Flores if we don't get Armstrong.

Is there any chance osu just sticks with rangel or Flores or are they for sure gonna try their luck at the portal?

The limitations we put on ourselves only taking a one year guy hurts. Why take a mediocre guy over the kids we have? We are pretty well known for developing players. There's a reason why so many School like Ohio State and Nebraska are going after Flores. Give him and Rangel a shot. We've got the playmakers around them to make up for it.

Has Gundy gone to visit Armstrong? Is Gundy on the phone every day?

Any money to offer him like the other schools?

Yes, when Spencer choose not to come back that opened a plethora of funds that could be used for others, I am talking in the 500,000 to 600,000 dollar range according to sources with a NIL Collective!

This is probably the BEST scenario in my opinion because I don't think either Aune or Armstrong have the arm strength that Rangel and Flores possess as QBs! I don't think that people realize that two SEC schools tugged at Rangel after he committed to us and as another commented Ohio State, Nebraska and even Yurcich at Penn State made a play for Flores!

Agreed, but really hard sometimes to throw kids in when they aren't ready. Not saying they aren't or can't get there, but that's a lot of pressure on a young kid.

I think Flores and Rangel having a full spring with extended reps will help a lot, but we have absolutely no depth at the position.

Wilson started at tackle in 2021 and can play all three positions on the offensive line!

Yes, probably Birmingham and Brooks are the starting guards next going into the Spring! Both those guys are STRONG AS HELL! Have to also see what Hunter Woodard decides after the bowl game about his future! Also, is there ANY WAY we can sneak Justin Wright into the starting lineup for the bowl game? He is a masher and this game is exactly his type of contest where guys will line up and bust helmets against each other!!!

Birmingham and Brooks are our best Tackles, it would be interesting to see them both end up playing guard.

we need tackles so Etienne and Springfield can play spot duty.

Spring drills will be very interesting to see how all these puzzle pieces start to fit...

Aune wouldn't be a bad insurance policy if Rangle and/or others gets hurt. Armstrong likely needs a guarantee he starts and Gundy normally doesn't like fumbles. If you read Armstrong's 2022 season history, he had all kinds of turnovers in a below '21 season drop off. Not just some interceptions but actually quite a few fumbles. Aune would likely be depth IMO. Rangle, Gundy and Flores will fight it out to start.
