Cowgirls Lose Big 12 Opener to Surging No. 22 Kansas

STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State's women's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end with an 80-65 loss at the hands of No. 22 Kansas on Saturday afternoon in front of 2,973 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

In the Big 12 opener for both schools, OSU fell to 10-3 on the year, while the Jayhawks improved to 11-1.

Throughout the first quarter, the two teams battled back and forth and were knotted at 10 apiece at the halfway point. With KU in front, 17-13, OSU used a quick 5-0 run to move in front before the Jayhawks answered with the next five to lead by four.

The Jayhawks used a 7-0 run to take an 11-point advantage in the second stanza before OSU began to claw back into the contest. Lior Garzon drilled a 3-pointer with 1:15 on the clock to get OSU within four before hitting the final basket of the half with two ticks left to cut the deficit to 38-34 at the break.

Two minutes into the second half, OSU tied the contest at 40 and regained the lead at 43-42 ninety seconds later before the Jayhawks moved back in front on their next trip down the floor. The contest remained a two-possession game for the remainder of the period with KU taking a 58-52 lead into the final quarter.

Kansas used a 12-0 spurt during the middle of the fourth to pull away.

Garzon led OSU in scoring off the bench, scoring 17 points on a 7-of-9 shooting effort, while Claire Chastain scored 14 and Terryn Milton added 12.
