STILLWATER – An update on Oklahoma State’s pursuit of a quarterback in the NCAA Transfer Portal is that the candidates are shrinking. There has always been the number one candidate in former Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong. The help wanted description is very exact on the Cowboys part. They are looking for exactly what they had in Spencer Sanders. The profile is for an experienced quarterback with one year left of eligibility.

Maybe Peter Dancer is right, or maybe he's wrong, but the whole thing is hilarious. Some fake Twitter account got over 77k views on a tweet about Spencer Sanders potentially returning and RA has to mention it because it got so much buzz. This is comical. I've needed a good laugh after the last few months of the season. 2023 is off to a good start!

Our coaches need to recruit our current top 22 to stay first. This is really a bad year for transfers.

How much of our fanbases frustration, about portal transferring, is really based on their inability to grasp the impact of NIL and the fact that this new generation of players no longer value unity and tradition over their desire to make monies, have less internal competition and play more frequently at a new school?

I don't like it either but this is the way the world now works.

Just to be clear, we enjoy our ability to quit a job and find new employment anytime we want but student athletes aren't allowed this privilege?

In spite of what I am staying I prefere more stability and fear the worse for college football and until NIL monies are tied to time-in-service and performance, the schools wi have little leverage over the players.

the football and basketball seasons are becoming like baseball has been forever.... most of the team up and leaves annually, and we have no idea what kind of team we'll have the following season.

SIGH....

Ohiopoke, I think some of the frustration comes from NCAA rules and limits on our ability to replace the kids that choose to leave... and the time lines imposed to be able to find and replace those kids. It is very late in the recruiting calendar, most of the kids signed early, and we just now learned that we have additional significant positions to fill. That is flat out panic time, and unfair to the provider. Some significant rule changes need to be made to accommodate this rash of player movement.

You used the "job" analogy, but frankly, employment is not based on "seasons", and hiring limits, and often include non-compete contracts, etc. I get your comparison for the players rights, but for the fans and supporters who actually provide that opportunity, I'm sure you understand how unfair and unrequited player departures are to those actually funding the player opportunities.

Cali,
I agree with your comments. I pretty much see it the same way as well.

Wondering if it is sustainable for a school to facilitate an 80+ player roster in the coming years.
