Oklahoma State QB Signee Zane Flores Named Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year

The 6-3, 190-pound quarterback finished the season with 3,117 yards and 31 touchdowns to just seven interceptions on 235-of-359 passing, as well as 79 carries for 262 yards and 10 touchdowns.

sounds like Illingworth's HS numbers, except the smaller size. 150-of-230 passing, 65%. 3,000 yrds passing, 40 TDs and 2 interceptions. 64 carries for 168 yards. 6-6, 235-pounds. Had to miss his Elite 11 invite due to arm injury.

I hope Flores can play as a rookie. Sounds like he might be able to. Heck Shane came in with no preseason (due to covid program shutdown), and saved the TU game, and won the next couple of starts, despite no experience or reps. None.

If we can get anything close to that, then we'll be in great shape, IMHO.

Timing is perfect.
Flores and Rangel have very similar bodies of work in HS - +9000 yards gunslinging, lots of TDs, few interceptions , close to 70% completion rates,, very strong Elite 11 showings, both are top notch accuracy, excellent mental acuity.

What's absurd is the recruiting agencies have Flores as a 3* for his early commit to oSu.

Excellent pairing for the QB roster.

I was really disappointed in Rangel early. Then felt a little better after the next game he played. As the season went on, Rangle played scared. When he is under pressure, he wilts extremely fast. I hope flores knows when to pull it and run as opposed to curling up and falling to the ground. Rangel is only one dimensional in my opinion.

Let's hope flores is much much better than Shane. He won us some gimme games but struggled mightily against competition. Haven't heard about him since. So far flores looks like the much better prospect especially with the added running ability shane lacked completely.

Illingworth was excellent for zero practice time. Freaking excellent. He was offensive player of the week at Nevada against San Diego State, haven't checked on him since. That was a bad Wolfpack team for the new coach.

QBs should not have to run on a routine basis. His HS rushing numbers were comparable to "prospect" Flores. Weeden didn't run. Rudolph didn't run. Robinson ran some, but not his forte. Mike Gundy didn't run. None of our OSU great QBs were runners.

I hope Flores is much better than Illingworth and Sanders combined. Hope is great.

BTW, almost identical comments were made about "prospect" Rangel... now I guess you folks are on to "the next great prospect", that hasn't taken one snap in college.

I only pointed out that Shane was great with similar prospect promise, hopefully Flores will be great too. Hope is great.

I'm more worried about the RB position, personally.

I thought Shane was quite good for a true Freshman, he basically helped us win the first three games in 2020! I don't know what some of these people are watching!!!
