Oklahoma State Lands Commitment From Standout In-State Receiver Tykie Andrews

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State just landed a commitment from in-state standout wide receiver in the 2023 class, Tykie Andrews.

This announcement comes less than a week after Kasey Dunn and Co. extended the offer on January 9. It also comes in the middle of an official visit to Stillwater for Andrews

Andrews checks in at 6-1, 180-pounds, and chose the Cowboys over Dartmouth, Drake and Navy among others.

It was a monster senior season this past fall for Andrews, who exploded onto the season of the Plainsmen. Playing for one of the greatest wide receivers to ever come through Oklahoma State, Rashaun Woods, the head coach for Enid, Andrews hauled in an impressive 1,151 yards and 17 touchdowns on 135 receptions.

Andrews marks the second prep receiver commitment for the Cowboys during this recruiting cycle, joining signee Camron Heard, the versatile QB/ATH out of Furr HS in Houston, who’s being recruiting to Stillwater as a receiver.

The Cowboys have also brought in two transfer receivers to date, Washington State transfer De’Zhaun Stribling and George Fox transfer Leon Johnson III.

Impressive highlights. He is fast, has evasive moves, gets yards after contact, good hands. Good separation from defenders, fights for well defended balls. What else could you ask for? Put some more weight on him and he is ready to go. But, will the unimpressive O-line be able to give the QB enough protection to really make good use of all this talent from the receivers? If not, these guys will be gone soon. I mean years of weak O-lines. I blame that on recruiting. Get it together Gundy and make better hires when it comes to coaches.

That is part of the reason Zach Allen, O line analyst, and Brayden Kearsley, O line GA, were brought in last January! Coach Gundy wants TOUGH GUYS like we had back during the championship run in 2011! Two of Zach A coaching mentors were Joe DeForrest and Joe Wickline!

I don't know what any recruiting knocks were against this kid, unless maybe he doesn't have "top end" speed, but all he seems to do is MAKE PLAYS on his film! Hey Robert/Zach, any insights on why he wasn't on everybody's radar? Academics related, what???

Best explanation is the high school pool of recruits is shrinking because of the increased number of players coming from the transfer portal. Guys that were a sure thing and widely recruitted years ago have fewer choices and players that had a few are now falling to FCS and Division II as Division I goes heavier to the portal.

He also did not get much play on internet recruiting sites and scouting sites.

I heard Robert on his radio show say that Tykie did not "blossom" until his Sr. Year. The eyeballs of the recruiters had moved on. Apparently there was a big leap forward fro Jr to Sr year . at least that's what I gathered from RNAs comments..

I like the idea of a Rashaun Woods coached wide receiver as much as I like the sound of a Rashaun Woods Offensive coordinator and future Cowboys head coach.
