Opponent Preview: Pokes Look for Revenge In Second Match-Up With No. 10 Texas
Oklahoma State (11-8 overall, 3-4 Big 12 play) is looking for a series split with No. 10 Texas (16-3 overall, 5-2 Big 12 play) with Tuesday’s 8 p.m. tip down in Austin, TX. The game is being televised/streamed on the Longhorn Network.
This marks the first back end of Big 12 play for the Pokes.
The Longhorns took the first of two matchups this season with a 56-46 grinder in Stillwater back on January 7.
Last time out, Marcus Carr and Timmy Allen led the way in scoring for the Horns, with 12 points and 11 points respectively. Allen had six rebounds, as did Tyrese Hunter, but it Dillon Mitchell who led the way in rebounds with 12.
As for the Pokes, Kalib Boone led the way with his first double-double of the season, 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, 4-of-6 from the free throw line, with 10 rebounds and a season-high six blocks.
The Cowboys are coming off two-straight Big 12 wins, a 72-56 win over OU and a 61-59 win over Iowa State. As for the Longhorns, they’ve gone 3-1 since the win over the Pokes, the lone loss coming at the hands of No. 12 Iowa State up in the Ames, 78-67.
They’re averaging 80.1 points per game on nearly 50% shooting from the field, while holding opponents to 66.4 points per game. Opponents, however, are shooting nearly 42% from the field. In terms of 3-point shooting, it’s fairly even as the Horns are shooting 32% from beyond the arc, with opponents shooting 33%.
In terms of assists, the Horns dish it out 16.6 times per game, compared to 10.9 on the other end, while outrebounding opponents 35.5 to 33.9.
Marcus Carr is leading the way for the Horns with 17.4 points per game on 46% shooting from the field and 40% from 3-point range. He also leads them in assists with 80 on the season to 32 turnovers. Tyrese Hunter, Jimmy Allen and Sir’Jabari Rice are all close together with 10.6, 10.4 and 10.1 points per game respectively.
Hunter is shooting nearly 40% from the field and 31% from 3-point range, while Allen is shooting a blistering 48% from the field and Rice 45% from the field and 30% from 3-point range. Allen is also leading the way in rebounds with 5.3 per game.
