Struggling Sheets is Major Hero in Dual Win at Northern Iowa

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – A third-period fall from Wyatt Sheets over No. 10 Austin Yant proved to be the difference in the Oklahoma State wrestling team's 19-17 victory over No. 15 Northern Iowa on Saturday night.

Coming out of intermission the Cowboys trailed Northern Iowa, 10-7, after the Panthers won three of the first five bouts. Tied at one in the third, Sheets countered a shot and stuck Yant on his back to swing the momentum to OSU's side and hand Yant his first loss of the season.

No. 6 Dustin Plott defeated No. 13 Lance Runyon, 7-3, and No. 18 Luke Surber claimed a decision of his own over true freshman Wyatt Voelker as OSU was able to hold on to the win and extend its win streak to six.

Carter Young was also able to collect a bonus-point win over a top-10 opponent with a 15-7 major decision over No. 8 Cael Happel at 141 pounds. Young jumped out to an early 12-1 lead in the first period with a pair of takedowns three turns. He would score three escapes from there over the next two periods to clinch the major. The win was Young's second over a top-10 wrestler this year and moved him to 3-0 in his career against Happel.

After Zach Blankenship gave up a major decision to Kyle Gollhoffer to open the dual, No. 2 Daton Fix responded with an 8-1 win over No. 11 Kyle Biscoglia to set up Young's upset.

Victor Voinovich and Kaden Gfeller each dropped close decisions to Panthers before intermission, while Gavin Stika fell by major decision to No. 2 Parker Keckeisen with Travis Wittlake out and Konner Doucet lost 3-2 on riding time to No. 13 Tyrell Gordon at heavyweight.

No. 10 Oklahoma State will wrestle No. 4 Iowa State in Hilton Coliseum tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT with a stake for first-place in the Big 12 standings on the line.
