Game Flow

  • Kalib Boone started the Cowboys off on the right foot with a layup, the 13th time this season Boone has scored the first points for OSU.
  • The OSU offense came out firing, making its first three shots, forcing TCU to take its first timeout just a minute and a half into the game with OSU up 7-0.
  • A 5-for-7 start from the field for the Cowboys and 0-for-5 from TCU allowed OSU to start the game on a 12-0 run in the first four minutes.
  • Back-to-back threes from Caleb Asberry and John-Michael Wright extended the Cowboys lead to 22-6. OSU started the game 4-7 from beyond the three-point line.
  • The Cowboys defense forced six TCU turnovers in the first 12 minutes as the Pokes took a 27-13 lead into the under-eight media timeout.
  • Kalib Boone’s 12 points led the Cowboys into the final media timeout of the first half, up 36-23, 3:11 left in the half.
  • OSU shot 47 percent from the field and 46 percent from the three-point line to take a 43-29 lead into the halftime break.
  • An 11-1 run from TCU brought the Cowboys lead down to 9 with 15:35 left in the contest.
  • Bryce Thompson and Moussa Cisse’s layups got the Cowboys offense going again, but TCU continued to cut into the lead. OSU led 53-49, 11:00 remaining.
  • Five-straight free-throws from TCU puts the Horned Frogs on top for the first time in the contest, 61-59 with 5:08 to play.
  • A clutch three from John-Michael Wright, his fourth of the game, and a layup on the next possession gave the Cowboys the lead back, 68-65 with just under three minutes left.
  • After TCU took the lead, OSU made 9 of its last 10 shots to grab its second ranked win of the season, 79-73.

Game Notes 

  • Head coach Mike Boynton went with Caleb Asberry, Bryce Thompson, John-Michael Wright, Kalib Boone and Woody Newton as the starting-five for the first time this season. The Cowboys are 5-1 since inserting Newton as a starter.
  • Kalib Boone continues to dominate the paint on both sides of the floor, scoring a career-high 25 points on 11-for-15 from the field while grabbing six rebounds and two steals.
  • Over the past four games, Kalib Boone is averaging 19.8 points, five rebounds and one block. Boone is shooting 78.5 percent from the floor in those games.
  • Caleb Asberry got the starting nod with Avery Anderson III out and made the most of the opportunity, scoring a season-high 19 points on 3-of-6 shooting from three. Asberry reached double-figure scoring for the sixth time this season and 54th time in his career.
  • John-Michael Wright scored 17 for the Cowboys, adding four made three-pointers. Wright has made four or more three-pointers five times this season and is shooting 36.5 percent on the season.
  • The 14-point deficit was TCU's first halftime deficit since Jan. 18 at WVU, breaking a streak of four-straight games leading at halftime. The 14-point deficit is the second largest of the season for the Horned Frogs.
  • The Cowboys 14-point halftime lead is the second-largest in conference play, tied with the 14-point lead against Oklahoma and behind the 15-point lead in Lawrence against the Jayhawks.
  • OSU has found success on the offensive end lately, scoring 30 or more points in eight of its last nine halves of basketball. OSU has reached the 40-point mark in four of its last seven halves.
  • As a team, the Cowboys have reached at least three blocks in all 23 games this season. OSU leads the Big 12 with 5.5 blocked shots per game, which ranks 13th in the country.
  • OSU has held 19 of its 23 opponents to 35 percent shooting or less from the three-point line, and 14 of 23 have shot less than 30 percent. The Cowboys rank 19th in the country in three-point defense, holding opponents to 29.5 percent.
