Lacy Involved in Big Plays and Taylor Finishes Short Productive Week at Senior Bowl

STILLWATER – It is hard to see in the picture we used for the cover of this story but check out the OSU brand logo on the helmet of the player making the tackle here. That helmet belongs to Oklahoma State safety Jason Taylor II (6-0, 207), who had a short, yet productive week at the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl with a strong practice on Thursday and several tackles for the American defense in a losing cause 27-10 on Saturday in the game.

Going back and looking at the video, Taylor II (21) was involved in at least four tackles almost all assists. In a strange situation Oklahoma State defensive lineman Tyler Lacy (6-4, 285) was on the winning National defense and Lacy had himself a day.

Taylor II was picked up late by Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy and his staff after Taylor II led his team in tackles with six and had a hustle play that forced a fumble and kept a touchdown from being scored in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on Jan. 28 in Pasadena, Calf. Taylor II impressed in the short time he was in Mobile.

Lacy had a solid week of practice and probably had to deal in drills with some very talented offensive line talent on the National team as evidenced by their dominant performance in the game with their 370-yards of total offense and 182-yards rushing.

Lacy registered half a sack early in the game, but later in the game was in on some influential plays. On the first series of the second half American and TCU quarterback Max Duggan stumbled and still tried to get the handoff to Kentucky running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. Lacy (89) was in on the play, but it was Kansas defensive end Lonnie Phelps that got there and got his hand in on Rodriguez Jr.

Late in the game to seal the deal American quarterback Tyson Bagent is trying to get his team a late score, but Lacy gets the quarterback pressure coming inside to force Bagent to scramble toward the sidelines and when he throws up a wild pass it is picked off by Maryland defensive back Jakorian Bennett. Then the National defenders gather and celebrate with Lacy taking part fully.

Lacy had a good day and will benefit from that game video being studied in every NFL team scouting department.
